You know those ads we've been copping all week about some "wait to you find out the truth" or some shite like that. Society has now been so well toilet trained we can't afford to let the grip on the remote control go. Hence the isolation people now live in within their own communities. Father's Day footy should have been marketed as just that. Take Dad to the footy this Sunday instead of nothing. Shit even Free Entry should have been offered to Dad's who bring the family and introduce their kids to the comp. You never know, they just might become a fan for life. For a neutral yesterday's EF v SD game would have been highly exciting. It had everything. Nope, lets stay home, watch some AFL shite being played in Adelaide and wait for Ronan and the X factor to tell us 'the truth'....give me a fkn break. Greatest gift my Grand Dad ever gave me was sitting me down in the Macca Stand at Basso as a kid. The theatre in front of me buried any bloody program I'd ever seen on the idiot box. That's how my footy addiction began and in my own bloody community. RIP Grandy....never forgotten

Great post DW ..I had a similar introduction to the great game & club myself

I lay there as a baby in 1941 surrounded by a proud father grand father and uncles chanting East Perth East Perth what choice did a babe have. Almost cult like it was but I thank them every day.

weather distracted many no doubt....ef v sd game was televised aslo

thought there was more than 2500 though...will wait for official numbers to come out

agree, it will be embarrassing based on the way the WAFC have destroyed the hope of its best asset - its own supporters.

If they had any brains they would lock the GF in at a suburban ground right now. If EPE play Subi then Leederville is a must. 10,000 there is better than 33,000 empty seats at Patersons. Or better still play it at EF Oval or Lathlain. Enough grass banks there for thousands of families. And at least theyd have an atmosphere. Let the takings be earned & divided amoung the G7 clubs equally, who could make some decent money for the day. Given they are at a distinct dis-advantage financially to the aligned clubs. No brainer in my opinion. Lock it in.

I agree Jardine

They could be looking at 10 - 12,000 tops I reckon, It will be either EP v EF or Subi,,neither have many supporters at the best of times, and very few wil go and watch a dead rubber.

Leederville would be a better option, forget EF or Lathlain they are too much of a mess.

Eitehr way its going to be a pretty damning indictment on the state of the WAFL. Scarey thing is it wil be the high water mark, expect less next year.

Agreed Bazza if last year couldn't get a crowd I think you could be looking at 6000 plus what ever neutral/protesters you get.

the wafl isn't a stadium competition anymore. Its only angle (if it has one) is families. And Patersons stadium is not family friendly by a long shot. If image counts for anything, playing a GF on TV with empty seats galore is akin to stomping on your own foot with steel cap boots. If they want to retain any shred of credibility, give the marquee game of the year a lasting memory of a packed house.

I think that maybe the miserable weather would have had something to do with it, plus I'm sure many Swans and EF fringe supporters who would be tempted to leave the couch and attend a final would have cosied up with the remote and watched the ABC coverage. Not sure a live coverage of finals does any favours to attendances. They used to be able to blackout the metro area so country people could watch it live with a delayed telecast to metro, maybe that would help attendances.

prior to EP selling their souls, they had regularly topped the attendance tallies usually just ahead of Swans and Joondy but obviously the alignment has had a significant impact, certainly the subi side of the stand was more populated than the Ferals side and apparently Subi have no supporters!! What does that say?

At this stage sunday is looking like being fine so we would want to see a crowd of 4k plus given this game will decide who is the best WAFL team of 2014.

We can play the colts' GF at Bassendean and the reserves as well. The make believe WAFL League GF - well does anyone really care where the West Coast Reserves' team play?
