It is pretty much a certainity that EP will win the WAFL GF this year or at least compete in the GF... NOT ON THEIR OWN MERIT

Williamstown up until this season have been aligned with the Western Bulldogs. If you watch the Foxtel game from 2011 against Swan Districts, then Claremont you will see a fair chunk of the team is the current Western Bulldogs AFL side. I think these are still available on the AFL site.

Having said this, Willy is stand alone this year, and from listening to SEN radio, they went on a fairly decent recruitment drive this year to fill the gaps of leaving players to the new Western Bulldogs VFL side.

I can't confirm if special conditions were granted to Williamstown, ie increase in cap to stand alone.

Port Melbourne for me are the bench mark. They have not been aligned with any AFL club since the mid 2006 (previously sydney and north alignments).

In 2011, Port Melbourne went the entire season undefeated, beating Williamstown in the GF.

Moral of the story: EP haven't won the flag yet.

VFL Ladder top 4 currently
Box Hill (Hawthorn)
Port Melbourne (no affilate)
Footscray Bulldogs (WB)
Williamstown (no affilate)

Not to mention the draft monies received. An unfair system in my opinion which contributed to the situation clubs are in.

unfair advantage....should effc just give up the geographics of the area and hand over suburbs Melville, bullcreek, Willetton, Attadale and any other suburbs you wish for and don't forget Geraldton who incidentally no other wafl club wanted when zoning was introduced
its funny that I have only heard of ep people bringing this zoning thing up???

maybe you should be on the zoning committee larry....and out of curiosity were you complaining pre 1987 about the zoning?

TBH strono I'm quite surprised folk haven't been complaining about the unfairness of the SF zones.....3 GF on the trot in the colts.....SF ALWAYS play finals footy in the colts over the last 10 years....won a reserves premeirship last year with a few of colts boys playing......how many in the u/18 squad this year and the u/16 squad this year?

Gero hasn't been a stronghold for EF for a few years now.......actually since the days of Kennedy, Ryder, Taylor and Anthony.......

Still rules are in place for the WAFL and if scuttle but is true then Ducks could be in a world of hurt. I have no sympathy for cheats

I wouldn't expect any WAFL club to give up anything for the betterment of our league. That has never been the way this competition has run and as it dies year by year we see this. Perhaps an equalisation of AFL draft monies. Drafts and more frequent zone reviews are difficult in a city so spread out. My point was really in regard to the professional footballers vs part timers well that hasn't changed there just at two clubs. And Claremont and East Fremantle are the ones that are effected most.

I thought Saunter said on 6PR there was no breach?

It would be mind boggling if it is true and it was Swans given the abundance of youth in the team and the losses.

No breach at this stage Underdog and THAT is in the article.
Just said they were on track to breach the salary cap.

Quote

And it is understood the payments show that at least one top-four club is on track to exceed the salary cap this year and may be forced to drop players to avoid a substantial breach

Yep,no breach yet but they will need to pull their heads in before the end of the season.Currently running over where they should be by roughly $50000.Even moore concerning is the recent approach by Swans to get Robinson back from the bush to address their lack of depth. That would surely add to their spending issues.Luckilly for SD that he turned down the offer.Time for SD to start acting in a more professional manner befitting that of a club that is part of the WAFL.As one of the G7 clubs,we need a strong SD both on and off the field.

I am no financial person, so could somebody please explain to me how Swans could have lost half their first semi final team from last year which included some of their highest paid players ( Twomey, Hildebrandt, Robinson etc), replaced them with younger players who mostly played reserves last year ( Cary, Jukes, Faulkner, Boekhurst etc) who surely wouldn't be on anywhere near the same coin as the players who left BUT even given this Swans are 50k off the mark???????

Something doesn't add up here.... anyone who could enlighten me?
