What if ... your club disappeared, or merged with another club, would you:

A. Follow the merged club;
B. Loose all interest;
C. Find another traditional club.

Food for thought ...

B

Mike I would seriously struggle with Aussie Rules if South went under .... there will not be a merge utilising the Fremantle nameplate involving East & South .... the AFL team has made sure of that

So what that means is extinction pretty much and what would translate into no more footy for me .... an option would be to support a country side in Bunbury that I have a soft spot for I guess

It is a thought that I really don't want or need to see in reality

If Swans folded or merged that would be the end as far as I am concerned.

I have thought this through, and have come to the acceptance that SFFC will not be around in their current form within the next two decades, I think coming to this level of acceptance helps.

To be honest I have already lost interest in the former WAFL as a result of the host club deal the AFL domination., so Im already almost a B - At least if a major overhaul of the clubs lead to some sort of increased competativness that could be good.

I would be prepared to give A a go to start with.

Fact of the matter is the younger generation will identiify with a new club much quicker than the oldies,

Anyone know what the Woodville Fans did in SA when it happened to them?

I know a lot of Fitzroy fans ended up getting onboard the Brissie Lions, but plenty drifted away I guess.

My club (Perth) effectively disappeared, about 30 years ago, from being competitive so its an easy one - B

Spot on Dazzler,i'm actually losing interest now and not so much because of the "alignments" but moreso because of our disappointing record over the past 35 or so years and 2014 doesnt look any better than the past 3 decades.

Its becoming easier not to attend games and i have been like that for a while now but i will say this season is the first time in many when i couldnt give a toss when the season starts,i'm not excited at all.
I know plenty of die-hards who were week in week out attendees no matter what the scores,they just dont turn up anymore!

I reckon i'll need a zimmer-frame next time we play off in a GF,i'll need a day pass from the old peoples home or a day release from the mental asylum.

I would try B but who knows how long that would last for.

SF and all clubs for that matter will be around for years and years to come. I can't see the WAFC letting them fold or merge. What I can see though is the realization that ground sharing is a must to cut costs in half and that the money received from the host club situation needs to be used wisely. The money side of things shouldn't be too much of an issue now as clubs can't buy 6-8 interstate players anymore.

Bazza, you paint a bleak picture of SF's future and I don't know why. Do you have it in for someone or do you like to look at the dark side all the time?

SF with careful cutbacks and spending will make a profit this year and look competitive on the field. We have $300,000 in the bank and have put heaps of cash over the last 3-4 years into the actual club to make it better. We haven't just sat on our cash, we have spent it for the future and for the members. I believe we own the land our clubhouse is on actually?

The Fremantle Dockers will leave Fremantle Oval in 3-5 years, we can pick the eyes out of what is left behind with their clubrooms and let EFFC move in and ground share and halve costs.

Of course I don't like the fact that Carter, Main, Duffield and Vanduluer will be leaving SF and playing for Peel and EP but I also find those games (especially EP) as even a bit more spicy now. All G-7 clubs' supporters will be keeping an eye every week to see who can knock these 2 clubs over with a genuine WAFL side v an AFL reserves side.

I can see fights breaking out, supporters that bit more animated etc.

The biggest concern is SD big debt and how they manage to pay it off year after year and still spend enough in their footy dept to remain competitive and Perth's on-field lack of success which is bound to eat away at member's patience. Don't jump off now though Perth Supporters because you will know what will happen?? You will win 9 straight and you can't say that you stuck it through to the very end =)

Looking forward to see just how the year pans out.
SFFC - WOOF WOOF

30plus Perth is going into its 37th year since the last premiership and 97 was the last time it's been in the finals what a deplorable record would have to be one of the worst performing clubs going around.

Like you I'm over it and over the comp as well this alignment will only drive supporters away can't see how clubs will survive .

good thing you weren't a Subi supporter in the 70's Peter...they went 49 years before cracking it in '73.
