Trying to think positive thoughts and slightly out of the square....when Claremont played West Perth at the Show Grounds about 8 years ago 8,000 turned up. The reason? West Coast players were there to sign autographs and do promotional work plus entry was a "gold coin" donotion.
To placate the non-aligned clubs and to help them financially and in turn help the WAFL survive, I suggest both AFL clubs, in an act of goodwill, send players to their aligned clubs away game to do what was done in 2005. Finacially, it would boost the coffers of the WAFL clubs.
Any thoughts?

I remember that game Jim, it was a close game from memory, we got rolled in the end by a small margin couple of points maybe? I remember going home sad :(

Anyway those idiots don't give a chit about the non aligned clubs, they would give us nothing if they had their way, I doubt they would send players out to do that sort of work, maybe the occasional one off game? but not on a regular basis.

What we need is a break away competition with the G7 clubs only....I know I am dreaming but that would be cool. :woohoo:

I remember the night well.. Great atmosphere. I actually think it was a Eagles function on that night.. Might of been their christmas party? (yeh I know early)
It was a perfect night weather wise and sure they even had some of the side show going.

Now thats the type of promotions we need but will the WAFC/WAFL organise that? Nah dont think so. Maybe up to the clubs as CLA will be there for 3 years so the opportunity is there.

Good idea I think. WP have had good responses to their Feature days and no reason why it cant be done v CLA by any two teams But not EP or Peel BUT then again the aligned clubs in association with their ALF club could come to the party. Railways stopped at the Showgrounds so that would have to be organised again. Maybe they will do it for all CLA home games if CLA gets onto them?

God helps those that help themselves... See how easy it is... Just a matter of someone getting off their arse

Re the OLIVE BRANCH in he heading NEVER  There is only one place I would stick that and that would be up the WAFC Committees arse

It's got to be "good PR" for the 2 AFL clubs....putting something back into a competition that's been around for 130 years...surely??? Not only that, but given the waiting list the Eagles have, given the success the Dockers have had this year, easy access for their supporters without having to pay big $$$ to see, meet and greet them...got to be worth a punt. It has to be in their interests to have strong opposition for their reserves...surely.
Or how about the two AFL clubs foot the bill for a commercial TV station to show WAFL games on one of their 2nd or 3rd stations? Cause if you keep taking without giving, soon there will be nothing to take!!!

Jimmy you are exactly right. Must have the bells and whistles of Freo and WC.

To take your idea one step further though I suggest

1) Freo take full control of Peel Thunder. By that I mean the Peel Thunder change their name to the Mandurah Dockers and have same jumper and song as Freo - except song saying we are the Mandurah Dockers.

2) One new team is created to be called the Joondalup or North Beach or Something Eagles. West Coast to have full control of them. By that I mean they would have same jumper and song as WC - except song saying we're the Eagles Joondy Eagles and we're here to show you ....

This would see

1) The traditional Eight left alone.
2) A ten team comp with each team playing the other 9 teams twice for an 18 round competition.
3) The opportunity for two distinct competitions the WAFL involving the traditional eight and the BHP Cup or whatever involving the whole ten teams.
Therefore Mandurah and Joondalup would not be allowed to play in the WAFL GF.

:West Perth could stay in Joondalup if it wanted.
:Mandurah Dockers and Joondalup Eagles to have senior squads of only 42 or so compared to the traditional eight having squads of 55.
:An important point to consider here is that Peel Thunder would loose 13 of their squad of 55 and Joondalup Eagles would only be allowed a squad of 42 so therefore only 29 extra senior players are required to form this new club.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Which points Cardy.

I imagine that it is the Joondalup Eagles part.

I don't think you could fault anything else in the proposal if you love the WAFL.

Remember I am suggesting that the traditional 8 are left alone.

West Perth returning to Leederville or staying in Joondalup is fine. And I do know how much work WP has done in the northern Corridor.

I stress that they can stay there if they like but

1) The Joondalup council will not rest untill there is a team called Joondalup.
2) I am not saying that WP should move back to Leederville.
3) This proposal maintains the integrity of the traditional 8.
4) This proposal brings with it the bells and whistles of the States 2 AFL teams.
5) This proposal only needs 29 extra senior players.

Can you please tell me what your major misgivings are with the proposal? And I am quite happy to hear if they are about all the work WP have done in the northern suburbs.

I would not just dismiss TFAF's theory at all. Given what a diabolical mess we have now, how does his idea at all seem unreasonable ?. However ..

The eagles won't ever look at Joondalup, they are basing themselves at Lathlain so if anything they would play games there, alignment with Perth or not.

I am not sure or really know what he means with this bhp thing, but the overall concept is ok. Traditional clubs & the WAFL retain integrity (that is lost now) , the AFL clubs get what they desire.
And we have evenness in team numbers.

It's not a bad theory TFAF, better than anything I've seen so far.

Fundamentally I as a Swans' member and Swans' supporter do not want to go down the same path as we did during the last host club debacle when we forced to watch the likes of Taylor, Clark and Embley play against us in the WAFL. Putting in another does nothing to resolve that.
