Yep for sure, did you know that China and India are now the biggest sources of immigrants to Australia, 160,000 every year are being pumped into Western Sydney and Melbourne, that has been going on for 10 yrs now, and they wonder why infrastructure, medicare, public school education and hospitals are struggling.

Last year Mandarin (chinese) became the second most spoke language in Australia for the frist time, they call Sydney Shangney now. heaps of banks and shops have to have signs in chinese now.

That is true Bazza ..in the Western Suburbs of both Sydney (Cabramatta etc) & Melbourne (Footscray etc) under the signage for instance of the Commonwealth Bank they will be written in both Chinese or Vietnamese!! :S

BH would they be the Vietnamese who came to Australia after we were involved in the bombing of their country and perhaps the Chinese are related to those who came during our goldruch period.

I would doubt that would be the case 42 as im absolutely sure they would have learned English at school if they born here  ..anyhow they should bloody learn as a rule/necessity to read & speak English before they make Australia their 'home'!!

BH we have Australians with longstanding links to this land who would have English as their second or even third language.

Yep this is a really disturbing trend, even if you walk around the Sydney and Melbourne CBD now you will see many businesses and banks etc. with Chinese wrting prominent - even more so than English...expect even more of it as the decades roll on Chinese are now buying 7/10 properties in the Sydney CBD, next time you see a news report for a politician on visit at a school in Sydney or Melbourne, try to count the non Asian faces, you will struggle,

We seriously need to start thinking about some English first legislation in public signage, before it gets to rampart.

careful where this one goes guys, I understand what your raising, but just be careful to not take things to far in this topic please.

There are people that have lived in Australia for over 50 years that still cant speak English properly so whats happening now has happened for years through the history of our great country.

Instead of it being italians or Yugoslaves as it was after WW2 its now Chinese. has been happening for years and will continue to happen in a multi cultural society. We cant change the rules now to suit, that just smacks of racism doesnt it???????

Oh and some of these guys can play cricket and footy just as good as you or I, they just need to be exposed and encouraged to get involved and have a go.

What a load of tosh swan, we and the yanks bombed the crap out of Japan as well, a hell of a lot more actually,,don't remember there's was no mass exodus of japs heading here after that, no they stayed there and rebuilt their country into one of the richest and most successful democracies in the world,

many of the so called Vietnamese refugees came here and went onto become the nations most successful heroin dealers in. Australia based in Cabramatta, interesting article in the Weekend Australian today discussing the puchase of Australian land and property by the Chinese , and where they will buy and won't buy, seems they are not big fans of multiculralism,,black banning Cabramatta , Bankstown, and Footscray due to ethnic crime...what a joke this countries becoming,

Actually more bombs were dropped on Vietnam and Laos (the forgotten war) than the combined total of bombs dropped on Germany and Japan during WWII....if you're interested.
