We do realise that if the WCE (and I hate them) didn't happen ALL good and potential WAFL stars would have left anyway to the VFL for cash.

If you want to blame anyone blame the VICS boys. They robbed the WAFL, SANFL and TFL for years before 1987, hence State of Origin was created.

And now I read that people would rather the likes of Dayle Garlett get drafted to the east to help out a Victorian club??

The incentive for the WAFL clubs was to get players drafted for 2 reasons - 1, to get money to keep their club afloat basically and 2, if you were lucky enough that WCE or Freo drafted them they would stay as your player and rightly so.

If I had my way I would want it like that of course. 2nd option would be to let WCE and Freo have their own teams in the WAFL. Yes you lose your local drafted players but at least we won't be hating EP and Peel for any other reasons than we may hate EF, WP or SD. 11 team competition, play every home and away for a season of 20 games. What was wrong with that.

But because the WAFL wanted everything their way and are lead by morons who got sucked in by the dollar we now have the worst of 3 options. Local clubs don't keep their own players drafted to wce or freo, they actually will play against them now!! We now hate 2 WAFL clubs in EP and Peel for caving in due to $$$ . . . great!! We now hope our local junior talent leaves our state?? Get real fellas. The Vics are laughing all the way to the bank . . . again.

Blame the Vics from the 70's and 80's who raided all other states and blame the WAFL commission over the past 5 years for letting the WAFL competition get to a stage where we are now talking about G7 and all this crap. PLEASE.

The more we cane EP and Peel guess what?? The more they will snuggle up to wce and freo.

I hope somehow in 5 years the alignment falls apart . . . somehow and wce and freo have their own sides in the WAFL (like what is happening in the VFL and SANFL now - why are we so behind in everything??) and each WAFL club is a club in their own WAFL right.

I better stop now but the blame is incorrectly focussed I believe.

Yes well said and spot on. My only hope is that in 5 years WCE and Freo's reserves are playing in an AFL Reserves comp and the WAFL can revert back to a 9 team comp.

The real issue that needs to be addressed is the distribution of money generated by the game to lower leagues. Returns to clubs for players drafted needs to flow through all levels right down to the junior club and it needs to be decent quids not the loose change they get now. That's how the WAFL survives without AFL alignment.

Heres an interview with Howard Dawson 1 of the people who bought a paper out on the WAFL. Covers all the points..He got canned for this initially but he makes some salient points! The only thing I don't like is the name change

He actually makes a compelling case for rebranding to AFLWA even though it is not something I'd be keen on either. But if you want to try and get kids on a pathway through footy to include a WAFL club, it would be worth it.

But he is right about the WAFL needing an independent asset base to fund itself and realising the development value of Subi Oval and getting a share for the WAFL is the way to go.

Where has this discussion paper ended up? It needs to be given a good hearing because it has some workable proposals to finance the WAFL into the future and because he's right that its 5 minutes PAST midnight in terms of the WAFL's survival.

It has probably been buried somewhere at the offices of the WAFC, there isn't much hope with Walton (planted by the AFL)or a spineless Frank Cooper running the show, they are waiting for the comp to die off and then sculpt there own meaningless feeder comp

The distribution only goes to North Melbourne, Footscray and Melbourne. I am ok with money going to Melbourne but not the others.

Yeah Agree 100%, whats the go with the AFL getting back the licences for the budgies and shockers, once that happens the WAFC will be pointless ( not that they do anything anyway ) there will be zero quids for the WAFL and grass roots, unless the AFL pay a heap of bucks for the budgies and shockers.

I can see David Gallops comments coming true, Australia is changing so fast and so quick now, if you go to Sydney and Melbourne and here in Perth there are so many Chinese, Africans, Arabs, Indians, and goodness knows what, none of these people have any interest in aussie rules they only know soccer, the A League is really embracing this the Western Sydney A league side is growing massively with all these ethnics, you can also see it at Perth Glory games as Australia changes so will the sporting tastes.

Yep for sure, did you know that China and India are now the biggest sources of immigrants to Australia, 160,000 every year are being pumped into Western Sydney and Melbourne, that has been going on for 10 yrs now, and they wonder why infrastructure, medicare, public school education and hospitals are struggling.

Last year Mandarin (chinese) became the second most spoke language in Australia for the frist time, they call Sydney Shangney now. heaps of banks and shops have to have signs in chinese now.
