Yes to October. Like home finals it should have been done 20 years ago.

An interesting suggestion from BH. A game a week after the AFL grand final would I think preclude any AFL aligned player participating in the match. I would also suspect that would also apply to a preliminary final the day after the GF.

It did cross my mind that there could be an upside to your proposal.

Agree 100% - although there is nothing new about the SANFL being ahead of us..

its goes back to the 70's..they owned footy park, never got ripped by the VFL for the crows licence, and now have a deal with the SACA for the Adelaide Oval, and the SANFL is way stronger.

SANFL Grand Final will be same weekend as WAFL next year, The AFL have told them the last game of football for the year will be the AFL grand Final.
With the Crows and Power in the comp now this was part of the deal.
Their crowds will drop as well just like ours.

I was watching college football in America last week on Fox. Although I know how the NFL operate in the states, it is still remarkable how they harness the lower levels of their code, UNLIKE THE AFL.

It is held in the utmost regard and the networks take that competition seriously and the young up & coming players seriously. The only time the AFL or the media give a damn is when they are on an AFL list. The whole thing is quite appalling.

Considering these junkets that Demetriou and all the club presidents keep taking to the states, its amazing how they overlook the competitions that provide the basework to their empires. The AFL are kidding themselves if they think things can be sustained down the track by neglecting it. Quality will deminish, that I have no doubt.

Can one suggest starting the season in mid- April? As another member stated previously, it's still too hot in March. That brings the Grand Final back to mid October or the latter half of the month. October weather is warm and more people seem to be out and about after the cold winter times. It would really put some focus back onto the competition Just a thought
