DF, I ain't talking about the players being "loyal'....more so the "loyal" fans, declaring their happiness, when an opportunity for one of their teams players getting drafted falls through.

The MSD is a crime though, more so because the AFL recruiting teams have enough opportunities to draft prospective wannabes looking to fulfill their dream. They have the Main draft, Pre Season draft Rookie Draft,  and the SSP draft....geez how many drafts does one need to fill ones list?

Hopefully the MSD will be canned and the clubs can negotiate a loan system amongst themselves mid season fior players....eg Lobb, not getting a game at WBD, gets loaned to Richmond for 3 months  and Richmond pays his salary during that time, thus leaving the WAFL etc alone during their seasons.

Freeze just in case my comments weren’t clear I am happy for any of my clubs players to be drafted but like yourself question the timing and necessity of the MSD when there are so many others. And as stated it totally disrupts planning and the ability to recruit like for like players at this late stage. These young guys deserve a go at the highest level - just bemoaning the total disregard for state league clubs.

No probs mate.....your post wasn't the one I was having a subtle or not so subtle dig at

Agree it kills the comp and the club for sure.....too many drafts if you ask me, especially for the salaries these AFL club recruiting folk are getting paid. Just increase the list size by 1 each then....atleast clubs will  lose player/s in the off season and have some time to recruit accordingly...not mid season when it's nigh impossible to recruit a  decent replacement.

Blight, Scaife, Kentfield, Teakle and Craven are the 5 WA MSD selections.....Peel won't be weakened with losing Blught due to their Freo contingent....WP and Subi lose their talented young talls.....Teakle to North(ouch).....and a smokey in Craven goes to Brisbane.....frustrating for EP as the young fella is a serious talent, with a great left foot.

Obviously congrats to those individuals and commiserations to their WAFL  clubs. for losing such talent mid  season.

Yes that's correct. And the question needs asking why is it allowed?

Unfortunately, its allowed because everyone is a feeder comp to the AFL

Armature clubs will feel the flow on effect because no doubt wafl scouts have been out at amature games recently looking to fill their holes and the cycle goes on

The stupid thing is that most of them are just moving from the WAFL to the VFL for the rest of the season. Of the 5, Teakle will probably slot into the Kangaroos AFL side pretty quickly. Otherwise maybe Blight could play some games given Richmond's injury list

first of all it is a bit of a disaster for us
on top of so many players leaving the WAFL for the VFL pre-season
it is a true reflection of how poorly the VFL run a supposed national competition
there were a lot of delistings last year - are they all useless or deemed not to be considered ?
there isn't any semblance of a mechanism that has player replacement available other than a poorly run raid
geez the pool must be dwindling rapidly

The thing is with the MSD is that it was originally conceived as a way of replacing long term injured players mid season, but it has just transitioned without any controls to a mid season rape of 2nd tier comps. Plus all AFL clubs have either a reserves or an affiliated reserves team to cover long term injured players otherwise why have the reserves??

Yes another opportunity for 2nd tier players to get a chance but lets face it, it's rare (yes there have been a couple) that a MSD player makes it as a regular long term AFL player, generally they stay in a 2nd tier comp ie VFL, SANFL or WAFL in the AFL reserves or aligned clubs.
