It is a complicated affair with the Mid-Season Draft because it's exciting for the players to get an opportunity at AFL level they might have waited their whole life for, but it can also deny their WAFL club one of their more important players in the second half of the season.

WA State Talent Manager Adam Jones , you know the fuck you get when you ignore football people and hire clayton's who graduated from a book , can see both sides and is part of the discussions to make sure WAFL clubs aren’t too impacted if they are to lose a key player.

"From a player’s perspective it is great to have another opportunity mid-year to be able get onto an AFL list but it certainly does make it challenging for WAFL clubs and their list management to be losing key players in the middle of a season," Jones said.

"The WAFC are currently in dialogue with the AFL about increasing the compensation for WAFL clubs who lose a player in the mid-season draft."

no shit sherlock

where the fark do these clark kents ooze out of ?

only the WAFC can produce these farks

The double whammy for a WAFL team of course if the Eagles or Dockers select one of their players is that they will then have to front up against their former player in a different guernsey. I reckon if East Fremantle lose Murdoch to Fremantle say, he should not be allowed to play for Peel against East Fremantle in a league game or a final in 2024.

mate everyone outside of Victoria knows that the VFL has the ability to "pool" readymade delisted players - after all most of them get swooped on to play in their own separate reserves comp there

this raid on other state players is nothing more than a free hit with little regard for their clubs if any

love to see the reaction if interstate clubs raided their reserves comp mid-season - the bastards would keel over and die the whinging and moaning would never cease

Here we go again- the mid season rape of the state leagues by the all powerful AFL.But at least we can look forward to the compensation received totalling……nothing.Money won’t change the preseason planning, commitment by clubs and coaches and time spent in developing players to get to this point and all that I don’t have a problem with when a player is picked up at the end of a season but now? It’s a total smack in the face.Players like Murdock and Teakle are mature and ready to go (and should have been picked up before- yes I know Teakle was) but a young guy like Scaife(who is not ready to walk into a starting lineup in an AFL side) would greatly benefit from staying where he is and building on what is currently an up and down series of performances. This is a problem with the media  - someone performs for a few quarters and they are suddenly superstars.Don’t get me wrong I think Scaife will end up being very good but FMD does the AFL have any idea about development or is it just grab  first and hope a player develops later. And if he doesn’t just spit him back out.

It looks like Subi's Savigni and Kentfield might be going to Brisbane and Melbourne respectively in the MSD. Good for them, bad for Subi with Giro, Hayden, Lockyer all gone for the season and Dewar and Sokol out for extended periods.

BC the only 3 MSD certs from WA seem to  be Blight, Scaife and Teakle.....a lottery for the other WA MSD wannabes.

As you say BC,  good luck to those selected, harsh for their respective clubs, but no surprise the fans being selfishly  happy when their best players don't get selected.....puts a different spin on the term "loyal"  I guess.

There are 346 nominations for a maximum of 23 spots. Fairly low odds of being picked up I would have thought

Freezn I think you're a bit harsh with the "loyal" bit.
The kids are still looking to fulfil their dream.
What shits me is that they take them when they have players on a long-term injury list.
Thery don't play them then spit them out.
But as mikeh says low chance of going.
Not sure that too many from WA will get taken.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!
I shot the fukin sherriff!!!!
