Would prefer a 20 round season but with an earlier start with games under lights, I see bassendean is getting new lights why not use them.

Rather than lengthen the season, the WAFL need to find other ways of playing matches when the AFL is not on. An example would be to take advantage of the warmer weather early in the season and have more twilight/evening fixtures especially at grounds such as the WACA

Spot on - the WACA, Lathlain - that's exactly what's required but no, this mob try and out-dumb the AFL buffoons who - in case you've missed it - want four field umpires next season. Nucking futz. Neither the WAFC nor AFL are effective custodians of the game, as they should be.
Yeah and the outgoing CEO just got himself a 13 Million buck house in Toorak, and I was reading the comments on the facebook thread all these clowns saying what a great job he has done and how great the game is he leaves behind.

The WAFC have actually got this one right.
The WAFL GF being played the week after the afl gf has proven a success and is the way forward but it must be played at Perth Stadium not the derelict suburban grounds.
I am not sure why WAFL clubs are upset at this as all WAFL fans I know and speak to regularly are happy with the change to an October GF.
And not playing in March is another good move as it is far too warm to be playing (not too mention spectating in the sun) footy!
Yeah I must admit I quite like the weekend after the AFL GF, and I certainly do not want to go back to a Sunday GF, and who are these clowns that say Sunday is the Tradional WAFL GF Day, load of BS, it was played on a Saturday for 100 plus years.

correct lads, we, should make the first week in October permanent; it is true how people have short memories, which, can be a frustration at times. The dreaded eagles played on Sundays, in deferece to the  Wafl in 1987-- rightly so;  some games were played on a Saturdary if they travelled to Victoria.

The West Australian Football Commission has today issued an adjustment to the previously announced fixturing for the 2023 WAFL Season.

To ensure the competition gets off to the best start possible in terms of maximising attendance and audience, the season will commence over the Easter weekend. This start will mean Round 2 will be staged during the AFL’s Magic Round, where there is no AFL content in Perth and Round 3 over the ANZAC Day long weekend. Each of these Rounds will provide blockbuster matchups and a guaranteed great start to the 2023 WAFL season.

The West Australian Football Commission recognised the opportunity for the WAFL Grand Final being staged post the AFL Grand Final, to deliver an exciting game to a captive audience, highlighting the unique offering of WAFL football and the WA community. The evidence gathered in 2021 and 2022 supported this view.

However, the challenge articulated by clubs is that the extension of the season has a considerable impact on them from an operational perspective. As a result, the Grand Final will now be held on Sunday 24th September, a long weekend in Perth and during the AFL Preliminary Finals.

The WAFC is committed to growing engagement with the WAFL competition and will be investing heavily in strategies to increase audiences, fans, members and attendance at games throughout the whole season and the finals.

The full fixture will be released in late January.

The clubs have had half a win with the season starting early and grand final on september 24th but looks like still 20 games.

No 18 games with 2 Byes.
October is cricket season.  That's why all the controversy surrounding the availability of Optus Stadium.
No excuses now.  The WAFC have listened to the WAFL clubs for a change.  Excellent decision.

Yep optus is booked the week after the afl gf and they obviously want the wafl gf back there so not much choice other than moving it back 2 weeks to September. Tbh I would prefer it to be after the afl gf but also prefer it to be at optus but you can’t always get what you want

Disappointing they have gone back to the same weekend as the AFL Prelims, loses coverage and was getting good crowds the free weekend after the AFL GF.

It doesnt make much sense in moving our WAFL GF back to the afl Preliminary Final weekend where it will be completely lost and have 99% less media exposure where the completed afl Prelims, the Brownlow Medal and upcoming afl GF will take all of the limelight!
You have to wonder if our WAFL clubs really want the competition to flourish as much as many of us do or more than happy to be an afterthought secondary comp?!
