I have read the story and The WAFL will revert to a nine-team competition next year after West Coast confirmed to the WA Football Commission that they would not enter a team in the league. But the fate of West Coast’s surplus and developing players remains unclear given that no existing club is willing to enter an alignment with the Eagles.Instead, groups of up to five spare players are likely to be allocated to one or two clubs - probably Perth and East Perth - or sent off to play at amateur level.West Coast averaged 10 listed players in their reserves team this year. The proposed model is expected to be confirmed by the end of October with WAFC chief executive Michael Roberts saying it would be addressed as soon as this Saturday’s WAFL grand final was over.“West Coast have said their preference is not to have a team,” Roberts said.
And no club has an interest in going into an alignment. They don’t believe it works.“We now need to work through the various models, whether an alignment, housing players at a club, whether they scatter players or they go and play somewhere else such as amos.“We have a few weeks to nut that out.“We don’t have a hard deadline but we want to know what we are doing by the end of October.”Fremantle’s alignment with Peel has been considerably more successful as it prepares to enter its 10th season though Thunder officials are cautiously examining whether they could revert to a standalone club in 2023.Roberts said West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett had confirmed the Eagles would not seek another WAFL alignment but were open to a less formal relationship with one or more clubs.West Coast have had three alignments - with Claremont in 1999 and East Perth (2000-01) and (2013-18) - but entered their own team in the league in 2019 and this year. They were forced to withdraw from the WAFL last season when the AFL responded to the COVID crisis by banning all listed players from State leagues.“Trevor has been quite open in saying they are not after an alignment anymore,” Roberts said.“They understand that it doesn’t work but they are open to a relationship with no strings attached and where they wouldn’t need to hire the coach or tell players where they have to play.“I think that has sparked interest with a couple of clubs.“West Coast just want their players housed somewhere and if that means the majority of their players don’t play senior football, then so be it.”Roberts confirmed that a revamped player points system was imminent with the points cap likely to be reduced but player values also being slashed. The new model is likely to place equal value on games played in the AFL, WAFL and other State leagues rather than providing a loading on returning AFL players.Transfer fees are also likely to be slashed, meaning that returning AFL players are less likely to be tied to their original WAFL clubs.

Oh well more of the same old crap and whilst Perth may see it as a way to replenish their playing stocks given their district issue I see it as EP (if they asked for it or agree) to placing hurdles once again front of our own players.

Happy to see them out of our comp, hope the door hits their collective arses on the way out!!
But this mob are unbelievable. They said that having players spread around the 8 traditional clubs wasn't working despite it producing 3 flags for them, Then they get what they demanded with the various host club arrangements that made a mockery of the comp, then apparently that wasn't working the way they wanted so they demanded their own stand alone team as that would fix all their issues and be a boon for the WAFL with massive crowds flocking to see their leftovers!! Then it was damaging to their players having to play with and against sub standard players, now they have pulled the pin and will consider distributing their leftovers amongst a couple of the current lower placed teams and wont demand where and how they are to play ... bullshit!!! They wont be able to help themselves from dictating to any club that takes on their leftovers.

Anyway this may be a temporary measure to bolster a team like Perth who would benefit from 5 or 6 AFL listed fulltime footballers each week and would also reduce their player payments. They cant say that they are taking spots from local players as they have stated they cant produce enough quality from their current zone, so win win. STD will be over the moon.

I you were an outsider looking in it wouldn't be hard to figure out who runs footy in WA and has total control over everything that happens...Trevor Nisbett.

The PFC will be all over this like a rash for any of those unwanted WCE boys.....jumped on Grey and Fisher during COVID,  keen as mustard for Vardy before Hickey went to Sydney , thought Schofield was a monty when his best mate Masto was at Perth.....Surely Bailey Williams gives them that ruckman they want,  Xavier O'Neill or Jack Petrucelle that speedy mid they crave for.....who else is there?.....all those WCE extras will simply be over the fence, well with in ear shot of Simmo mentoring  the WCE bigger boys on the training track.....just makes sense....probably allows Canning Vale and the  Applecross footy clubs a stay of execution for a year or two from being coerced into "joining" the PFC junior zone from the well run EF junior zone......

Go to the top of the class.

This is a cost saving measure. The cheapskates are prepared to further pollute the WAFL comp by forcing quasi-alignments without the cost to them.

They'd be better off following through with their threat to go to the ammos. Maybe set up their own team, the Princesses. They could use that bird from Frozen as their emblem.

This is spot on Grump and my main objection - along with club identity - to oppose getting lumped with Meth Cokes dross every Saturday. It's a killer for retaining young talent.

Very difficult balancing act to inject 5 to 6 players onto you weekly playing list,if as suggested the fringe players are split across 2 clubs, particularly when you trying to overcome the alleged angst of current players in your squad who rightly or wrongly, feel that they're not getting a fair shake at the selection table.
