more like Peter Thorne (EP/C/Melbourne FC) , Darryl Sutton (SD/North Melbourne + Collingwood) John Wise (SF/Collingwood) Chris Smith (P /1980 Richmond premiership player) , Stephen Mount (SF/P/1980 Richmond premiership player) Brett Yorgey (P/Richmond) , Phil Bradmore (WP/Footscray) and more came over in the very early 1980's

Yes mate from 1981 onwards quite a few more Vics tried their luck in the WAFL with mixed success, that list I put up earlier was just the 1980 players as that was the season AR mentioned.
Interestingly we have had some very good players from NT, TAS, QLD, NSW, ACT since that time but not too many from SA have had successful WAFL careers since the days of Bunton Jnr & Hawke in the late 50s early 60s.
Freeze would no doubt throw up Mark Norsworthy :silly: and possibly Greg Hodson.
A few players from Richmond's 1980 vfl Premiership team came to gods own country WA after- the skipper Monteath headed back home to SF then finished at CL, Rob Wiley came home to PE & was in the WCE inaugural squad, Stephen Mount tried his hand at SF & PE, Daryl Freame had a few years at PE whilst Malthouse had to come here to make a name for himself as a coach.

Surprised you've left one out BH unless I've missed it. Played for your club too. Little rover from Canberra. Also where Adrian Barich came from.
Get on your bike.

No I deliberately left Ed Blackaby out DD as he is not a Vic.
He was a little gun before injury & illness ended his career but he was a Tasmanian we recruited from Canberra (Manuka) in 1980.

I know you are sticking with Vick’s in 1980 but given but broader scope of sone posts want to make sure Peter Ware gets a mention. Loved him.

He certainly was great to watch running full bore bouncing the footy out of the backline STT and could take a hanger too.

For Subi in 1980 Peter Munro for me. Paul McDonald was ok too along with Douge and Schultz.
On another note was Caine Hayes from vic before the ferals?

sometimes i hear apologists for the vics making excuses for players, such as fields, pointing to his age

for goodness sake; how old were players of the elk of farmer, cable and featherby when they returned? And, yet, they still got a kick.

Southerner do you know what Benny+Basil are doing these days. Are they back in the Territory or in Perth.

Basil yes and Benny coached in the ACT I think it was at one point and used to do some labouring around Perth not sure where he is right now mate
Two ripping blokes and Basil is still instantly recognisable by that massive grin

I remember a semi final in the very late '80s where the legendary late Maurice Rioli turned on a blinder for South Fremantle - it was nearing the end of his brilliant career but by christ he was seriously good that day
