From what I've heard, a Parliamentary inquiry could achieve changes in legislation or get an issue to the Parliament’s full attention.
Really hoping both accounts are going to happen in this case.
Not sure if these inquiries allow public submissions? I would imagine the 8 Wafl clubs, amatuers and country leagues would be allowed? After all it affects them the most.
Just hoping the whole exercise does not become a waste of a space inquiry!

Jack in 1989 the Burke state government bailed out the Eagles+Wafl debt. And set up the Wafc to run footy in Wa.

This is about 20 years over due, TBH succesive Govs have dropped the ball on this since the WAFC was set up, the Minister of Sport was given a permanent seat on the WAFC Board, however apart from the first year it was set up no minister has taken it up, which is mind boggling given the amount of money that has pumped through the org amd it being a Quango.

Level of accountability have been missing for decades, and with huge funds pumping into the eagles one wonders what exactly has been going on with quids and who has pocketed what to turn a blind eye.

Quite concerning.

What makes me bloody angry too is the fact previous state governments and previous sports ministers could have/ should have investigated, but obviously haven't done so!!
They're all too busy prancing around the house on the hill believing everything is fine and dandy.
Of course, now look at the bloody mess the Wafl is in. And no-one gives a toss!

Understand that, XU1 - but the Commission is not a government department.

For a start, its employees are not public servants, otherwise this current salaries fiasco would not be happening.

The WAFL has to be careful what it wishes for..

Here is my tip, the inquiry will look at the 350,000 participants and ask themselves how they are benefitting from the investment? Its very questionable that funds are not flowing through to grass roots clubs i.e. Juniors and Ammo's which make up the vast majority of participants .

When the Government figures out that a very significant portion of their own funding is used to pay the wages of a very small portion of semi-professional players in the WAFL - the shit will hit the fan.

the WAFL is not wishing for a parliamentary enquiry.
the public is able to make submissions so you should put your views forward Mr Tugboat.
hopefully nobody from an ammo club is asked to come forward and say nobody is getting paid to play ammo footy, would you be happy to put that on record to the parliament ?

Haha gold MO especially the amateur club Tugboat has an affinity with!

The WAFL annual salary cap is approximately $250k which is virtually covered by the annual entry fee of both Freo & WCE to have their partnership with Peel for Freo & the stand alone side for WCE to play in the WAFL.

of course I would, nobody gets paid at ammo clubs, maybe a couple fuel vouchers here and there from rogue clubs ...

When a bunch of bean counters look at the funding going to the WAFL and compare it to Salary cap payments by WAFL clubs its a very obvious question to ask as to how this is benefiting the public and or 350,000 participants.

I'll keep an eye out for your submission to the parliamentary enquiry, will it be in the fiction or non-fiction area ?
