Went to the shopping centre with her and met someone from EP, and I preface this by saying the veracity of his info is a little questionable but ...., he said that AFL has bailed on the colts due to the financial impost in the current climate!

I have heard the same Grump.
The Vics have washed their hands of our Colts and now back on to the WAFL clubs to pick up the pieces (and tab) again!

So now the WAFC will need to find the money for this which in todays climate is going to be very difficult.

It will mean that the Past Players will need to ramp up its money making efforts to help clubs with the costs, same as before! Sponsors will need to be found and for clubs like mine and yours BH the mums and dads of the country boys will find it that much harder.

The WAFC are going to have make some serious decisions with funding. Things like continually supporting Peel, letting non financially viable clubs to continue, moving forward with the Womens comp will have to be balanced with the competition for development funds and most imprtantly they like the afl will need to call a diet company to help them shed the fat in their orgnisation, the WAFL is more important than the Commission.

More interesting times ahead and NO it is not the death of the WAFL!

Will it mean the draft fees are brought back then, it has to be the case surely

The draft fees were never paid by the AFL directly to WAFL clubs.
The fees went to the WAFC who decided on a system of rewarding the WAFL clubs for having their colts drafted.
Lets go back to running our own juniors, make EP give back *Ellenbrook to Swans, and make the AFL clubs pay for draftees and we will all be happy.

You've nailed it Grump. The perverse irony of course is after bitching and moaning for yonks to get their hands on the colts and to field AFL reserves teams in the WAFL, the AFL shat themselves and ran at the first sign of trouble.

I'd go further. We don't need a WAFC. Certainly not the one we've got now. Return authority to the clubs.

Tough decisions ahead and I have no faith in the AFL flunkies in the WAFC making the right ones for the interests of WA footy. That's why I believe we may be looking at a very different WAFL in 2021 with less teams. And that's not good news for the crabs or the Ponzi scheme bandits in south Geraldton.

And you are also right, a lot more pressure goes back on the clubs and PPOAs to fund raise and support junior development. You can only sell so many raffle tickets!

You forgot to mention their overseas adventures, taking footy to a disinterested and confused world. Another brain fart WTF moment from the AFL.

You see this all the time with Not for Profits. As the money grows so does the imperial ambitions, executive salaries, the bureaucracy. But don't worry, Dill's doing a great job. Lawyers running footy. Who would have thought that'd come a gutza????

The VFL infiltrated the WANFL in the mid 1980's with the likes of John Walker - it waited until the WANFL had not many star players left & money drying up because of it and then pounced
