Carlton have already terminated their alliance with the Northern Blues.

Regardless of what happens I think the WAFL as we have come to know it is gone.

Both the Eagles and Dockers will still want to have their own team or be affiliated with a club in some capacity.

If there is 8 teams then perhaps we could have a 21 game season plus finals.

More of a case of what’s next for the AFL because they are the boss like it or not.
This will never happen but this is what I would like to see:
FOLD Gold Coast, GWS, St Kilda, Melbourne, North, Bulldogs, and leave us with a twelve team, 22 round season.

ZONES. Six Victorian Clubs share Victoria and Tasmania, Crows and Power share SA, Sydney get NSW and border towns, Brisbane get Queensland and NT.
Eagles get Claremont, Subi, West and East Perth, Dockers get Swans, Perth, East and South Freo.
All clubs stand on their own two feet financially mostly and look after their own zones entirely by their own methods. Just imagine the interest and resources The Eagles and Dockers would put into the WAFL and WA footy if it was their own nursery.

Certainly an interesting idea ToO and would definitely strengthen state league clubs across Australia with a bigger player pool for them to chose from.

One thing I'd like to see happen though is the draft age increased. I'd like it that a player has to have turned 19, before April 30th of the year they are drafted. So anyone born between 1st January and April 30th 2001 would be eligible this year.

I think this is an increase by 12 months on the current cut off date. An extra 12 months either studying at uni, doing an apprenticeship or in the workforce would be more beneficial for the players going into the system in my opinion. You could even increase that age from 19 to 20 if you wanted but then you'd probably have a massive fight on your hands with the AFLPA. 12 months would be better than nothing.

I hear you Mr AFL but I think that whole scenario wouldn’t be a scenario under my system because the clubs would have complete ownership of their zones. For instance say Perth had some young skinny kid playing colts who has oodles of talent. He would be exclusively Fremantle property and would play for Perth right up until he was completely ready for an afl debut, which would likely be age 20, 21, 23...25 ..
Zones makes everyone a winner and takes footy back to its suburban roots that the entire fabric of the game is built upon.

I guess with Freo's backing, the Peel Footy Club will live on STT.....

ohhhhh shoot.. you mean the Perth Footy club....yeah one way to break a 40+ year premiership drought I guess..corona compromised competition though, not sure with the WAFL traditionalists that it would count tho in their eyes....

perhaps a left field novel idea would be an EF and Perth merger.....Perth fans get their wish of having Eardley, Loersch, Strndaica et al in their best 22 and EF wouldn't need to be whispering into the ears of disgruntled contracted Perth players......be funny if the Buffalo was appointed head coach of this new merger too....LOL....long live the Demonic Sharks....

The worry for me is not just this season which I doubt will go ahead in any form, I think this thing is going to linger much longer than people think and everything will not be hunky dory for next year and everything just goes back to normal.

I can see either football played in empty stadiums or at best severely reduced crowd capacities of at least 50%. I hope I am completely wrong.

A rejigged 2021 WAFL will see EF and SF merge (they should move now to call themselves Fremantle and let the other Mob change their name before it is inscribed into any records for winning anything)
Joondalup Districts will only supply a Colts team and (Possibly 2) to make sure the Zone still flourishes and all the Left overs will continue to strengthen, PFL clubs, Whitfords, Wanneroo, Kingsley, Kingsway, Ocean Ridge,
The 8 team comp will play each other 3 times and the remaining 6 traditional clubs will get a minimun 11 home games.

Sounds like we'll find more news soon. Apparently the 8 Wafl club presidents are going to have a discussion next week. Either next Wednesday or Thursday I heard.

Why dont we have a PRETEND League where you can pretend your club flogged Subiaco..
Last week Claremont 23.16 154 defeated Subiaco 4.5 29.. nice

where they'll discuss being back to the nine team comp because the AFL sides won't be participating due to the staff cuts imposed upon them
Mandurah will be back to being Mandurah earlier than they wanted to be & East Perth will be alone
Not sure whether alignments will be a popular point with some prezzos given what's happened in the last few years though
