With the damned alignments in full swing, should the Wafl now have a name change?
Changing the name to the Western Australian Minor League could be an alternative? Whereby there will be like an association of aussie rules football teams. There are the 7 WA clubs which will keep their identity. Sadly, the other two teams are now only alignments, which are now owned and controlled by big business, which use them as a training team.

Perhaps the WA Football Association would be another name to consider?
The proper 7 WA clubs along with the two alignments will be in the organisation. The number of un- even teams would be competing in a seasonal sporting fixture. The seven traditional clubs would have a common purpose and formal structure. The 2 alignments have been converted into carefully constructed proving type teams which have been absorbed by big business and have their own purpose.

Or maybe change the name to Western Acclimatized Guild or WAG for short. :woohoo:

WAG do I detect a degree of sarcasm? If the invertebrates at the WAFC even countenance a change to AFL WA they should be instantly and summarily dismissed.
What should happen next year is that the G7 clubs should provide absolutely no assistance to the devils incarnate and their subservient aligned clubs. This should also include playing all colts' games at the normal time of circa 9.00 am.
Also, under no circumstances should any consideration be given to playing any AFL listed played in a G7 reserves' team.

It' difficult to not ask the question. I notice the terrible name on the Tassie football page, www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-3385-0-0-0
I get the feeling the g7 clubs hands are tied. It was all over when they accepted the tons of cash that suddenly materialised in front of them. That excuse that calls itself a football commission has now caught everything in the net, aided by big business. The g7 clubs could have stuck to their guns and put real pressure against all this crap from happening.

No one plays Aussie Rules anymore. All kids play 'AFL'. I bet you never hear a kid in Australia say they play 'WAFL', 'VFL', or 'SANFL'.

AFL is the name of the game formerly called 'Australian Rules'.

Anyone who kicks a footy (sorry AFL ball) is an AFL player, no matter at what level, or what league. Ask the media.

WAFL and SANFL are not consistent names with the AFL's brand (who essentially owns the game of Australian Rules), and this has been demonstrated with the VFL logo this season incorporating the AFL logo.

It is only a matter of time, and DO NOT be surprised if the WAFL logo has the AFL logo included in the coming season. It would be quite easy to change the current AFL Logo to have a W. This would off course keep the WA AFL teams happy.

I think many of us here including myself need to accept the truth that the WAFL brand has lost relevance over the past 20 years.

There have been a whole generation that have now grown up with the West Coast Eagles and the AFL, and the WAFL being perceived as little more than recovery league for injured AFL listed players (also known as AFL Stars).

Its about money and marketing. If AFL clubs are able to sell training tops, then there is no reason why they wouldn't want to cash in and sell reserves jumpers especially if the two reserves teams do change their jumpers in the future.

In meantime The AFL branded logo will be more recognisable even on an East Perth jumper, which would be of benefit to the two AFL clubs (remember its all about the AFL).

It could be a death nail for the WAFL comp's individual identify and traditions, but a blessing in disguise for the future of WAFL clubs base on the WAFC does very little to promote the WAFL brand at the best of times. The AFL are generally very good at promoting the AFL brands.

Have to agree.. I see the two teams as being
EP Eagles
Peel Dockers

Maybe the EP and Peel will go as well?

I really think based on the names of the reserves clubs in the VFL and the NEAFL, they will be simply end up being Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles.
