This whole gay issue and coming out is a joke to me! No problem with gay people in anyway, good luck to them but why is they say to us "we're just normal people in the community" do they have to "come out" why do they have to parade down the street in their underwear? 1 word, attention....if you're secure and happy with who you are who cares. Recent post on FB I found so true, an American sportsman told the media " I'm a Christian " the media said who cares and keep quiet. Another sportsman came out as being gay and the medias response? What a hero this guy is...WTF? Been around Ammos for 20 yrs and never seen or heard of any gay guys, nor have I ever been to an AFL or any footy game and heard anyone vilified for such. If the AFL does this campaign it will be a waste of money and pandering to the minorities...but I guess that's what our politicians do...screw what the majority of Aussies want or think....here endeth the sermon...

Nice try Wyong but both me and my missus would be surprised If that was the case! The points made by bazaa are fair, it's a minority at the end of the day and if no one is having problems with it then great we can take it or leave it! Wouldn't want to see anyone put off this great game by vilification though, what ever kind it might be.

Sports clubs are just a reflection of society in general and one particular comment on this thread demonstrates that some people have extremely homophobic views. So why would a gay footballer bring his boyfriend to the awards night when there is so much ignorance around the place and you can bet he will be vilified for it

Dont know about villified but would wonder how much he would be fined at the next team fines night.....

It's just the AFL trying to deflect some heat.

They are getting smashed in the media after the whole Bomber's banned substance debarcle so they are doing a warm and fuzzy to try and save face.

What difference does it make anyway? Outlawing it won't stop it...it's a way of getting him off his game so other teams will try to exploit it at all costs.

Perhaps Darth, it wouldn't surprise me regarding the AFL.

However, IF this is an issue that is equivalent to racial abuse, I dont think racial remarks would be accepted "to put someone off their game". I think we all know that is a no go zone. It is clear that the AFL want these type of homophobic comments removed from the game completely such that one day they will be black listed in the same way that racial abuse is. At the end of the day, surely we are all clever enough to come up with some other witty banter which does not include these subjects. I've heard some crackers in my time, but that can be for another thread!
