D1/2 is for any club who has thirds and fourths and is a relegation system (not based on where your top side is) and E1-3 is for single teams, thirds or fifths and is also based on promotion/relegation (not based on where your top side is).

How is this not fair?

What you want is to go back to D-Z grade and your team moves up based on whether they make the GF or Wooden spoon it. Problem with that is the potential to have a clubs thirds and fourths potentially in the same grade if they happen to be extra strong.

By the way I get some teams are not where they should be this year but given the exceptional year of teams leaving from high grades you can’t use the standard blanket approach. They lost a C2 team on Friday!! How hard do you think that makes it shuffling the decks.

As I made clearly stated (or at least I thought I did) there is not much else that can be done at this stage, due to the lack of teams with the depth to have a 4ths. If we were to drop our 4ths, we would probably lose 30 players from our club, which I think you'll agree would be stupid.

Well at least Mt Lawley won't be able to stack their 4th side and make a GF this season.

I think the E1-3 is fair Viper and the way it should be for the lower grades. Scrap the D grade, start the D1 league sides in E1, their reserves team in E5 and then assess how the method is performing in 3 years time and the risk of clubs playing each other (which I admit is not on). As least then you will have equality across all comps. Fixturing headaches may arise where league/reserves play at different grounds but I think clubs will prefer to spend extra time coordinating volunteers across two grounds instead of going into seasons knowing they will not win a game against uneven competition

The reserves would have to start E3 possibly even E2 depending on the amount of teams. Some have fifths in E grade currently and this is where it gets complex.

If I read right north beach have 6 teams.

It would be a logistical nightmare to go back to the old system of each team played in their individual grades but it could be done as the past has proven.
if you look at scores last year in C1 & C2 reserves there was over 80, 60 point belting handed out. So you can understand why some clubs would like to get away from those clubs with really strong depth. Most reserves players are either trying to play league or not willing to give up playing footy and fronting up knowing your going to get belted is one of the reasons why players drop off and we have forfeits in the second half of the year. Plus I’m sure the sides dishing out the belting would prefer to play in more challenging game.

does anyone know why Noranda is out and High Wycombe are in C2 all of a sudden?
I thought Norandas penalty was dropping 1 grade C1 to C2?

And

Why no C3 or Laurie Keen colts?

Our 5s and 6s played last year in the D2 & D2R comp.

Having a D1 & D1R or D2 and D2R grades linked is no different to having your League and Ressies linked in the A - C4 competitions.

Sides get promoted based on their league side, not how strong their Ressies team is. Plenty of A grade clubs have had rubbish reserves who got belted most weeks. i.e. Kelmscott, Stirling, Maddington, West Coast spring to mind over the last 20 years

What does make sense in fixturing the D1 and D1R together is that club resources such as trainers, timekeepers etc aren't stretched to different grounds like they are when split into E2 and E3. Also players can back up an play a second game if numbers are tight in your lowest grades with D1R at 12:30 and D1 at 2:30.

Fixturing that many games would be a nightmare and the WAAFL does it pretty well.

Guess you cant keep every flog happy though.

Redlegs, that works fine when there is a D2 comp, but we don't have that this year. Is there a relegation/promotion proposed for D1 at the end of this year? Or are those clubs who have 4 teams destined to stay in D1 until there are more clubs with the same amount of teams?

I hear what everyone is saying about the benefits of having your thirds/fourths play at the same ground when it comes to resources. I still think clubs would go to this extra effort for the sake of a fairer grade comp.

I can also understand why the clubs with 5 or 6 senior teams are not fussed by the current system or D1 fixture as they will ultimately be the stronger ones in that D grade comp.

Wanneroo to C4 is an absolute gap-filler with no regard to how we will fit into that grade.
