Just a personal opinion not my clubs and we don't pay so I don't know how we are jumping on the band wagon.
But a points system isn't stopping the cheating so good luck with that. But no doubt a points system will make your club just as strong as Wesley and Trinity, so I look forward to seeing you guys jump through the grades in the next couple of years.

The WAAFL have been unable to control player payments for decades so its not a new problem. Salary caps, whether it be the WAAFL's $0 cap or the WAFL's $285,000 cap, are never able to be properly policed.

You are also completely correct in saying a player points system wont stop these payments.

But the introduction of an effective player points system offers the WAAFL the opportunity to limit the advantage that clubs are able to gain through cheating the salary cap. It will also refocus clubs on developing juniors in their area and allow the less financial clubs to compete on a more even playing field with the richer clubs in the WAAFL.

All very valid discussions gents.

The purpose behind this topic was to ask if the WACFL points system will affect ammos.

Will we see an influx of those fringe paid players in the country leagues come back to ammo clubs and chase coin or will it see some of the top end country players asking for coin in the ammo because their country club cant fit them in the points/sallary cap.

Will we see more player coaches in the ammos

A salary cap would have a marginal effect in the WACFL - or anywhere - as a one-step equalisation reform.

The payments will more than likely remain at present levels and overpayments would just be made 'underground' in the many possible ways, including the incorrect recording of payments in ledgers, the 'second set of accounts', a portion of gate going straight to the player without a payment trail, a sponsor's pretend job, a sponsor's 'gift' to a player, a sponsor's partner getting a zero hour a week job for good money, diverted raffle revenue to a player, free scholarship to player's child/children (heard this one is not rare in the VAFA), etc.

A salary cap is a toothless tiger, but a points cap is a more transparent and effective form of equalisation reform. It prevents a stockpiling of talent by the one club and helps to equalise the competition. By adopting a player points system, the payments to players should take care of themselves because it's useless for clubs to splash out huge money to recruit a number of big guns if they can't be played in the one side.

Let the elephant in the room come out - the poor bugger is sick of hiding in the corner. Pay the players what they like and do it openly and freely for all I care. but a points cap will ensure that at least there can be some sort of level playing field.

Is the real agenda of the points system to have effective equalisation reform? The competition is not about equalisation. It seems the "points system brigade" are jealous of successful clubs and want to bring them down. Try this concept, develop a professional club with a strong culture,a supporter network, committee and a pathway for development of young players, mix it with a lot of hard work and see how you go! This is a proven formula for success, not a points system. We have a great competition with A Grade standard exceptional. Great footy to watch, leave it alone!

the point system is to allow lower grade club to be involved in the bidding war to secure good quality player from a higher level. Even tho we are classed as amateurs the association can't stop/catch player payment so their idea of making it equal is to bring in a points system which will then only allow you to buy a couple of players from elsewhere and then try to source the rest from your local area.
What will this do to the ammo's, turn good quality players away because they can't play with their mates.
You will never stop the cheating or breaking of rules for gain. It's part of life, looking to get the upper hand on your others is what sport and life is about.
