I'm just reading the feedback on the pros and cons with Club Provided Umpires and making a few suggestions, that's all.Feel free to ignore them if you wish.

Keep posting Grassy, good general question, that the above poster did not answer, as he is focusing on that "one" game previously discussed. I have noticed many complaints on here prior about HW umpire, but ot on this one umpire previously, and to generalise your question to all club umpires, I am not sure any have or do anything about it

I wouldn't listen to tiger he his very much tunnel visioned on our umpire. There were and is some average calls all throughout the game as every week the umpires can't get everything right. And I know 100% our umpire would not cheat for us even if we told him to.
Tiger just needs to get his head out of his arse and realise he wouldn't be able to watch a game of footy without umpires

But when that "average" decision is made and results in an opportunity for the opposition to have a shot on goal then you can understand with players and spectators get frustrated, especially in a telling point of the game or in all too regular occurances.
Didn't see your Balla v CSP fiasco but I know that when the rub of the orange falls to favour the opposition the emotions get rustled. Finals should supply us with nuetral umpires so let's have that to look forward to

Kirbs spot on there is a real shortage of field umpires coming through. Very few ex players are coming down to join the WAAFL panel umpires and when the youngsters leave the WAFL after a few years they seem to give the game away all together. The Amateurs have been advised of this and encouraged to get the word out to retiring players to give umpiring a go but it fell on deaf ears given the results. Not sure what the future holds but something has to change as we are all getting older!

Majority of the umpires umpiring in amateur footy are over 50 and clearly they aren't growing on trees, hence a lot of umpires C2 and below are affiliated with the club they umpire and cop the your a cheat tag. A lot of these umpires are simply helping out their club, so they wouldn't umpire a neutral game so we would lose them to our competition and be in a worse situation if we made all umpires neutral. Yes a lot of umpires aren't the best and some do cheat that is certain, but if we get rid of this percentage who do we replace them with. Obviously it is up to the clubs to train and educate these umpires so their club isn't tarred with cheating claims, but the main issue is we need more umpires urgently to keep these bad ones honest and yes in a perfect world all umpires would be neutral. That is the million dollar question how do we get new umpires ?

Not just in Amateurs it appears a shortage everywhere. In a discussion I had in the past with an ex Amateur umpire he is now a Club umpire because the money is better

When I was young I once had this relative when I lived in the country. Our entire family had to break off our relation with him as we couldn't be associated with an umpire.

I've read previous posts in relation to umpires from all the rounds and it appears that if one person doesn't agree with a free kick, yellow card or a fifty metre penalty, then the umpire is either useless, biased or a cheat. Umpires have to pay free kicks all over the ground and people only complain when it happens to give a team a shot on goal.

Why don't you all whinge about the free kick in the back pocket? A good umpire is one that will let them play footy and get what they need to get, where ever it occurs.

Umpires should however, not impose themselves on the game, as they are there to be part of it, not be the focus and say look at me look at me!!! There are some good umpires in C2, just seems to be a few bad eggs that tar everyone else.

Its not an easy gig that's for sure, you have 44 players, spectator and coaching staff all watching the umpire every minute for every decision and non-decision they make.

No one seems to care when a player makes a mistake like missing a goal from 30 out dead in front, or turning the ball over to the opposition who then kicks a goal. But if it comes from a free kick, all hell breaks loose.

As people say, umpires are a necessity so give the good ones a break !

Here is an idea to solve the "cheating" umpire issue that seems to rear it's ugly head every year. We all have club umpires and pay them as you would every week but they go to a game that has no impact on your game. Eg an ump that is with a club from C2 go to C3 game. You could also do it that they do umpire in that grade but NOT your club. You still pay them as I'm sure the money would be similar throughout the comp but some would get paid more or less than others. By having your club pay for him they'll still get the same coin and could even get games closer to their home instead of traveling to away games.

Bouncing is on the way out. Almost all panel umpires don't bounce including A grade
