Canning Vale not having a colts side this year is a rumour I heard a few weeks ago with nothing to back it up. I hope it's not true.

Any teams not having a colts side is an issue - not just for the future, but for the competition now. If 2 clubs already don't have colts teams, that puts 4 byes into the competition already - I'd hate it to be 6. Colts players need to be playing every week or their interest wanes and they find other things to do on Saturdays. Only so many can be placed in League, Reserves and Thirds teams without alienating those players too

A big part of solving the issue is working closely with the junior clubs in your area. With more and more schools decreasing their involvement with Aussie Rules and concentrating on more on soccer, that issue is growing. We see and hear little or nothing from our WAFL club and they too must step up to the plate for their own future.

I guess you guys talk on here without looking at fixtures because theres still 9 colts teams fixtured with canning being the only one missing lynwood is still there and canningvale definitely have a colts team
I do agree that theres problems in junior/colts footy with stirling c1 not having colts and a few c3 and c4 teams not having colts aswell as a number of teams with colts struggling for numbers. But the wafc and afl bury their heads in the sand and pretend theres not a problem

I would be extremely surprised if Swan View fielded a Colts team.

As I understand it, Canning Vale is in East Fremantle's zone. It was not East Fremantle I was referring to.

Very disappointing to have only seven teams in a comp and unfortunately I don't think it will get any better anytime soon. When you have a decrease in players, but an increase in clubs I don't know how you can expect all clubs to be thriving.

Pretty clear that lifting the Colts age hasnt work and may have even been detrimental. It's not going to encourage an under devolved 16/17yo kid to play against 20yo men. I'd like to see it go to 12's,14's,16,s and then colts are back to 16-19. And fuck the PSA! Play all school footy mid week like it used to be.

Think I have to agree with you regarding the Colts age debate Mad Dog. Great for these top Clubs to have 2, maybe 3, Colts sides - especially when they don't have any Junior sides affiliated with the Club. And the decision to increase the age a couple years ago was to assist them retaining those players because they didn't want to play against men!!! Well the young fella's coming into Colts against these 20 years olds are playing against men. WAAFL needs to align itself with all the other Leagues around Australia where Colts is, and always will be, 18-19 years olds - then you need to step up.

The issue for the colts age players is most of those kids have stopped playing footy at 13 and 14. Look at the WAFL junior completions last year, there was 3 comps under the WAFL team in total something like 34 teams in under 17's and they are the feeder for how many ammo clubs. So many junior comps now shared over 2 and 3 WAFL zones. Too much money and advertising put into Auskick. More money needs to be spent on teenage kids to keep them playing footy otherwise we will see ammo clubs start to disappear.

Canning vale came through strong with a good colts side! It is canning south Perth and lynwood/ ferndale who have dropped out!

Anyone thoughts on colts playing at different grounds to the rest of the c2 clubs? Makes it a bit difficult when all the helpers help with the league and ressies teams....
