Kelmscott 0.0 0.0 0.0 13.9 (87)

Well look at these interesting results. Willetton restored some pride and caused a huge upset against Scarborough, Collegiains avoided relegation with a win, North Freo assured themselves of top spot and Minor Premiers, Hamersley ended Maddington's finals hopes and I'll speak about the Wanneroo v Kelmscott now...

When I did my write up on Thursday I told teams who fell behind and who had no chance of playing finals to not go the knuckle. Well obviously those words weren't adhered to by some players...

The colts game started off promising in the first two quarters, nothing out of the ordinary a few boys throwing their weight around. Pity the game only last till half time as after half time, it erupted...literally. A little scuffle broke out and some players were given marching orders, before it was on again for young and old. The Kelmscott players who were sent off were back on the ground and at this stage the umpires walked off and the game was officially abandoned. Well that didn't stop the players going at it as the fight continued, Wanneroo's coach was on the field trying to drag his players away from it when a Kelmscott player tried to take him out too. It wasn't a great look or advertisement for the game. I think Wanneroo were officially granted the win after Kelmscott told them they forfeited.

The Reserves did what they needed to do against a Kelmscott side that actually turned up (unlike last time they played at The Showgrounds). Buoyed by the fact they were playing in front of the home crowd for the last time they registered a good win without doing anything special.

It was time for the much anticipated league game with the winner, moving ever closer to getting a chance in the finals . Wanneroo started off well in the first quarter and were leading by a few goals at quarter time as Wanneroo had majority of the play and ball and used it effectively. It was a much fighter affair in the second quarter as both teams were desperate to win the ball. Heading into half time Wanneroo were up by 3 goals and were looking to come out after half time like they did the week before and work hard.
Previously when playing Kelmscott the third quarter had always been a problem for Wanneroo but this time it was different. The players came out after half time and played like they had the first two quarters. Halfway through the third quarter was when Kelmscott hit their straps and started to play the football that has seen them sitting 4th on the ladder. Still leading at 3 quarter time Wanneroo was confident that they could grab a win in front of a vocal home crowd. Kelmscott came out kicked a few goals and it was a tight tussle for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately for Wanneroo, Kelmscott got on a run and kicked the final 3 goals of the game and won by 8 points, all but ending Wanneroo's finals hopes.

Wanneroo need to beat Maddington away from home next week and win by a substantial margin and hope either Kelmscott or Hamersley lose. Not an ideal situation, but a good effort from a team coming up from C grade last seasin and with a large number of personnel changes.
Sadly next week is the last week, so hopefully I can produce something special for you all....I might actually do a write up with no spelling or grammatical errors.

Sorry all I know it was quite remiss of me by not mentioning that a few of the young Wanneroo boys were beaten by some Kelmscott players in the League game. By beaten I mean roughed up off the football. Obviously it worked for Kelmscott as they got the win in the end but it's not the way football should be played by anybody, especially at an Amateur level.

I think "roughing up" is a bit of an understatement there. When one of the "big hard men" from kelmscott king hits an 18yr old 50m off the ball because he can't handle a little bit of niggle from a boy.
That's all I will say on the topic, good write up.

I don't believe Kelmscott should be calling what they do "playing football". I'm sure they would be a good team if they would focus on the ball and not hitting guys behind the play. It has nothing to do with whether they are 18 or 40, just play the football. It doesn't make you tough just a coward.

Kelmscott have always been like that. They are the type of people that would start a one on one fight but then get all their mates in to beat one guy up. Absolute tossers of the highest order. Glad I didnt have to play against them this year.
So according to bulldog a bit of niggle between players equates to one player being able to king hit the other behind play...?

Obviously the NBN has reached Kelmscott now Bulldog. I call the player and we have a few of them boys because they are still in school. Meaning because they were knocked out they couldn't attend school and get an education. I know even though the player is playing league football, doesn't give you the right to assault the player, regardless of the age,
I think Champ Kinds is right, just play football and you earn respect that way.

Also I'm not sure what a mudpit has to do with the canteen, the canteen is the busiest of any other WAAFL club I have ever seen, because people want to flock and see what is so good about the chips.

The kelmscott wanneroo game was pretty intresting.

No matter what happened with one player going down. Wanneroo were 6 Goals up with 5 mins to go in the 3rd quarter. Should have been able to play hard footy and hold onto that lead and play some finals footy. Ninyette was the difference in the end with 6 goals in the second half. Wanneroo will learn from this and hopefully hold onto the young group next year and push for top 3 finish.

I wanted to add that the Kelmscott COLTS couch should be applauded for the way he handled their colts after the game. He was not happy and game them a good spray, just what they needed after trying to be 'tough guys' on the field. They need to learn you cant do that in life.

I am not surprised you found the canteen shit, it is not Kelmscott's style. Kelmscott are more likely to squawk like a seagull looking for scraps and anything that is free.
