Just trying to make a point that if they are serious about stamping out player payments there are other ways that the issues could be addressed. From reading other posts here it appears quite clear that player payments are happening at the top end of the WAAFL today as they have done so in the past. I played B grade at Basso in the 90's, the club was borderline broke most of the time so never really saw this issue (even when on the committee), just kept hearing the innuendo about A grade player payments, and the odd B grader in a few clubs who'd slipped down a grade before bouncing back quickly to A's. We never quite made it unfortunately slipping at the last stumbling block a couple of times much to HQ's delight. Seems there is a bigger issue here than some would like to admit. Maybe an amnesty should be offered to any clubs coming clean if this would end the issue but let's be honest, it ain't gonna happen. Would be way to embarrassing. Premierships can be bought at all levels of footy, even Amateurs. Personally I find that un-Australian, but hey, that's just me ;)

good point there dirty about the un-australian thing, but hay rules are rules and i reckon if the club pays well hit them hard..
As a new community club we pay no one ,including our coaches. We played sunday footy last season and are growing bigger in 2014.
One of our blokes has been offered $250 a game from a c2 club,he refused.I will email their president with this info.
If you wanna pay my blokes be careful because I am Australian but i hate pricks paying money for stuff we have developed

Money at C2 level....what a joke...would hate to think either of the 2 clubs (who are both in this grade in 2014) I've been involved with over the years have succumbed to such low standards. If that's the case here robberdog pm me and I'll raise it in front of the player group. Doubt any fellow player would be super impressed considering how much it costs to play these days after fees and weekly matchday fees.

Unholytugboat, i would like to know whether the WAAFL puts the onus on the club or player to come clean in these circumstances. In my eyes both parties equally share responsibility. Interested to know if the club and player won't sign stat decs are both subject to being deregistered as should be the case.

Guess it's a sign of the times sbelly when people feel everything they do has a $$$$ value. Back in the day I used to laugh my head off at guys in my team that counted and could recite their own stats in a game. I presume now they run around the field calculating the dollar value of each possession. If as a player in these grades you need to be paid at the expense of the rest of your team mates re fees etc, they are paying remember, what sort of individual does that make you. Been involved around E grade for best part of a decade and can't say I've ever seen a player so good he deserved to be paid although have heard quite a few tell me how good they think they are. It's bloody E grade guys, get over yourselves, the level of footy doesn't get any lower in the metro area. If its really stooped to these levels across all grades I take back what I said about it being un-Australian...bring in the ATO and make em pay for the privilege of CHEATING. Nuf said, I'm off for a kick at the park with my young nephew...no money & no stats required :)

Don't think the ATO would be interested Diirty Weekender. They only investigate and prosecute when they know they can win and the end result won't cost them money paying wages to lawyers and govt solicitors.

Also heard that canning have collected a few big names from grades above, maybe some money involved.

I think before starting rumours wait for the clearances

I know that a lot of boys from swan ath get paid, not in money, but in beauty products. Like free leg waxing and hand creams, free tanning, and free gay comb overs for the lot of them

Any more developments with the Wembley situation. Young fella I know training down there tells me they are talking a $20K fine. Dropping them down a grade for the year hardly seems fair on the teams in the lower grade if they are too strong for the grade so maybe they should be forced to play all year for no points (eg Melbourne Storm). Just throwing it out there as cheating needs to be punished!!! The young fella also told me the players don't pay fees at the club. If it's across the board how can an amateur club possibly afford that and still pay some players??? Unless of course it's just the colts that applies to.

Bit of humour there banga, it is well know Swan Ath are completely against player payments and never offer any kind of remuneration to anyone. Even back in my playing days until now!

It is quite phenominal that they managed to finish 4th as the only club in A grade that definitely does not pay players. I guess blokes who grew up together rather play for winning with their mate than getting paid to play with people they dont even know.

I heard you paid Polly with crackers Mac but apart from that can confirm that Swan Athletic are a non-paying A grade club just from knowing many of the guys over the past 20 years. Kudos to your club for being as strong as you are without offering cash incentives. Please tell me Polly's not going around again mate. He's starting to embarrass a few of us.
