What do North Beach and Lance Armstrong have in common? 7 in a row?

saw that Wembley have already started pre-season.

Not huge numbers on the track for a 4 senior team club. Not even enough for 1 team on the track.

must be feeling the pressure.

Care to share the Media release?

Any idea on who the player was?

Surely Wembley will suffer the same fate as Kelmscott.

The WAAFL wish to remind clubs and players of the by-laws pertaining to amateur status and remuneration.
Any club which offers to make payment or makes payment, either directly or indirectly including via a third party, by remuneration, earnings or reward whatsoever (whether by way of match payments, sponsorship, reimbursement of expenses, including travel expenses or otherwise) to any of its players (except as set out in by-laws) will breach the WAAFL by-laws.
Competition Integity Committee
Trevor Howard has been appointed Chair - Competition Integity Committee. Bill Coleman and Bob George remain as Committee members.
Any club official, coach, member or player, upon being directed to do so by the Committee or General Manager shall be required to appear before the Committee and answer questions directed to him or her, and if required to do so by the Committee, verify the answers by statutory declaration.

Resulting from the WAAFL’s Competition Integity Committee investigations in 2013, a Wembley player has been fined and de-registered to play in the WAAFL by refusing to sign a statutory declaration to verify answers pertaining to remuneration.

Tip both the individual & club off to the ATO. Law abiding citizens in this country pay taxes on their earnings and surely the ATO have more power to investigate these things. Surely to protect the integrity of the competition it is in the WAAFL's best interests to ask the ATO to audit both club & individual if either is refusing to sign the stat decs. One can only assume that if one player has been paid then there will be others down there. Player payment rumours surrounding that particular club have been rife in player circles for 20+ years although I am the first to admit I have no first-hand knowledge of any specifics. Where there is smoke, there's fire as they say.

Bit over the top don't you think Dirty Weekender. If you want to do that to one club you might as-well do every club in the WAAFL. One extreme to another

I think a lot of clubs will be nervous by that. Once the leauge start looking at A/B grade sides, things are different and a lot of clubs in these grades will be sweating hoping that they arent asked any questions

Appreciate that my comments are kind of un-Australian and would be hard core for the WAAFL to go that way. Just trying to make a point that if they are serious about stamping out player payments there are other ways that the issues could be addressed. From reading other posts here it appears quite clear that player payments are happening at the top end of the WAAFL today as they have done so in the past. I played B grade at Basso in the 90's, the club was borderline broke most of the time so never really saw this issue (even when on the committee), just kept hearing the innuendo about A grade player payments, and the odd B grader in a few clubs who'd slipped down a grade before bouncing back quickly to A's. We never quite made it unfortunately slipping at the last stumbling block a couple of times much to HQ's delight. Seems there is a bigger issue here than some would like to admit. Maybe an amnesty should be offered to any clubs coming clean if this would end the issue but let's be honest, it ain't gonna happen. Would be way to embarrassing. Premierships can be bought at all levels of footy, even Amateurs. Personally I find that un-Australian, but hey, that's just me ;)
