Well the pointy end of the season has arrived for five clubs, the others are at the store shopping for moth balls! The Valley got touched up by a well drilled Mosman Park side who snatched the double chance from Warnbro. Good side Mossie and may well pose a threat for the flag. I don't like bagging umpires but the guy that does their Reserves and League is so bad it's not funny, it's embarrassing! They should get their Colts bloke to do the seniors he was good. Bassendean have hit the finals in red hot form and will also be dangerous. The top two both had good wins and will be favourites to meet in the decider. Canningvale pipped Manning, I'm assuming the Cougars did drop some lads back to their twos as rumour suggested to ensure they got a win for the season. Good luck to all the finals contenders. An easy week for the tipsters saw Viper take it out, nice work.

Results as expected - margins probably the only surprise from the weekend.

As a club;

League finished 6th - PAR
Reserves 9th - BELOW PAR
Colts 2nd - ABOVE PAR

Colts
After another slow start, our Colts had a good win against a Manning side who fought all the way. In the end, Manning were probably out-classed a little - though I am hoping their ferocious attack on the ball taught out Cubs something! Our Colts have a big game this weekend vs Quinns (I assume that would be played at Wyong??)

Reserves
Had 20-players rock up on Saturday which meant nearly a full side - both myself and the League Captain dropped down to double up. I am paying for that now!!! We were in control for much of the match. Was great for the super two's to have a win. They are the heart and soul of our club and have struggled all year - and even better was the nice little percentage boost to help them avoid a wooden spoon.

League
Long season over for us. 6th position is probably par considering the cattle we lost over the off-season and through injuries. Biggest thing between C2 and C3&4 is the depth. Once you have two or three guys out you really need some good cattle to replace them... I guess that is something we will work towards as our young guys get older and stronger. The game itself vs Manning was an interesting one. We were in control for the first three quarters (up by 7-goals) only to see Manning give us a scare and have all the play in the last term. Few fiery sequences of play added to the atmosphere. Their supporters are probably the most loud and loyal in the comp as well.

My view on the finals:

Quinns will go through undefeated to take the flag andddddd will play Canning in the final.

Bassendean are my smokey.

Thanks for a great season, gents.

Fantastic writes up through the season LAG, wish some of the other clubs would do similar.

From reading through C2 all season, Mossies look like the darkhorse if anyone will test Quinns, who I predicted early season with players of the class of Gilhome would nearly be unbeatable. (thus far they are)

great season and well done to the top 5.

Mossies had several ins after not winning a game first 4-5 rounds. If those players didn't come in would they have won many games? It was an obvious change in their team.

Using Lynwood as an exmaple ... Is anyone who's not expected to last in finals capable of making the big day? Quinns are the obvious choice to be one of them on GF day but that doesn't always work in fianls. Canning were meant to play off last year not Lynwood. Can they go one step further this year?

Best of luck to all sides in finals, looking forward to a hard fought month ahead.
Well done in particular to mossie park who looked likely to face the double drop earlier this year, they are certainly a threat to all sides and a legitimate flag threat.
Unlucky to canning vale on just missing out even after finishing at 10 and 8 but with a very promising colts side coming through the only way is up for you boys.

Scary thing about this year, I would say all 5-teams are capable of winning it on their day. Had a spare 8-hours at work today, so here are my thoughts.

Quinns
$1.50 favourites - 18-0 season record

Powerhouse team of the competition. Haven't lost a game. Them Flag is theirs to lose more than anyone else's to win. Strong all round the ground, they have running power, strong bodies, good honest defenders and forwards who can kick goals.

Canning
$3.00 - 14-4 season record

I would say the most 'experienced' team in the competition. Have lost twice to Quinns and once each to Warnbro and Mosman Park. They have the big bodies around the footy and very few passengers. The addition of the indigenous fella's from Kenwick seems to have boosted their side as well speed wise. With lots of older, calm heads around the footy, I would have them a bit shorter in price, but I see their recent finals record hasn't been as good as they would like... I think this year they will make amends and get up to C1.

Mosman Park
$7.00 - 12-6 season record
(after an 0-4 start)
The surprise packet of the season. IMO, they are the weakest of the 5-sides in the finals - purely going on their performances against us. They have a couple of good match winning types through the guts and up forward. Very few passengers as well. I kicked bags of 7 & 6? against them so they are prone to having bigger scores kicked against them. However, their 12-2 record in the last 14-games speaks for itself.

Warnbro
$4.50 - 11-7 record this season

Started like a house on fire, got on the roller coaster, but seem to have hopped back off to be a legitimate contender. Losing to Swan Valley shows they could be mentally fragile. They face Bassendean this week and will feel uneasy after two defeats against them this season. They have some slick midfielders who can deliver with a silver spoon if given space. They also have IMO the best forward in the comp - he is only a small/medium type but leads strongly, has good hands and most importantly kicks straight!! Shutting him down is paramount.

Bassendean
$7.25 - 11-7 record this season

The ultimate smokey - Against us, they were as good as anyone. Simply put, if their mids can get the ball to their forwards enough of the time, they will win games. That is their strength. Mentally, can they be shaken? Few indigenous fellas in the side - will they step up or shut down under the pressure of finals. Would not be surprised if they do well in the finals series, nor will I be surprised if they are out after the first week.

Great write up LAG and thanks for the effort during the year.

1: Quinns $1.50??? Happened many times before, teams choke. They may not but teams of late have been close to them. They will make the GF , but win it??? Anybodies game on the day. My money $1.85

2: Canning, deserve to finish where they are, had a great year , good hard footballers. Only saw 1 of there games. $2.70

3: Mos Park, Good even side but may hurt a bit on the large ovals for finals, and there umpire wont be umpiring. $5.50

4: Warnbro, good talent in every position, they may struggle if teams get on top of them early. They do play hard football and may have to watch a little if going sout of the rules, if they have a couple sent off it may hurt a bit. Definetly have a good chance if they get pst this weekend which they may as they play their oval quite well. $7.00

5: Basso, yes the team I follow so I will try and put my other eye in. Seen them play about 8 games this year and the ones which they have won they have done so through a very good brand of footy. They are hard at it and they do not take a backward step. Their skills have improved from last year as well as their desire. They have lost a few players but also have picked up a few. The best thing about the group is they go in hard and not afraid to back themselves. If they can get over Warnbro this week, may cause a couple of problems. $5.50

For what it is worth the C2 comp this year appears to have been played in good spirits and it is a credit to all clubs that this was done. Good luck to all.

well thats this season over. C3 beckons for us but hopefully we can recoup next year and make it a short trip.

Colts
Swan view are a very good colts side and showed it against our boys. it has been a strange season for them never knowing who will show up on any given week but with a good core group. i hope we can keep these boys down at the club as they have showed alot with a lot of them having to double up most weeks.

Reserves
our reserves gave the canning twos a scare in this one. a lot of passion being showed and fight right to the end. the final score being 77 - 75 us having more scoring shots but going down by 2 points.

League
this game was more exciting than the score showed with us leading even up to three quarter time, this had us thinking we might just do it we can still stay in C2 but then canning put the foot down and more than doubled their score in the last quarter while holding us goalless to get the win. cheers to all the canning guys who stuck around for a bit.

i'll chuck my money for finals on Mossie, $7 and having the double chance i'll take that. how much would they pay just to make the grand final?

Interested to see your market and comments for all games Rumour Mill. Surely not suggesting $1.10 for Quinns in a 2 horse race on the day??
