TOPIC:

This Sunday the 4th of August 2013 will see Sunday Football return to the Thornlie Football Club located at Walter Padbury Reserve, Berehaven Avenue Thornlie.

Thornlie will take on former Sunday League rivals the Gosnells Hawks in all 3 grades.

The two clubs have had a great rivalry for over 40 years and the game has high stakes for both clubs so there should be a finals type atmosphere.

Thornlie will also hold it's 20 year anniversary function for the 1993 premiership side.

This will be a massive occasion for the club with a huge crowd expected from within the local community.

The great facilities coupled with the family friendly playground / picnic area should see a fantastic day at the Lions Den.

The weather forecast is for a sunny day with a maximum of 23 degrees.

All are welcome and the club would really love to see members and players from all old Sunday League Clubs attend.

Maybe referring to Thorlie's push to get in to the WAAFL on numerous occassions and eventual acceptance leading to remainder of comp coming over.

The Sunday League was big in the 80's & early 90's ..a lot bigger & better than Amateur footy let me tell ya!!

Well it was a fantastic day at the Lions Den for the big Sunday League Clash.

Great weather,a huge crowd, 1993 SFL Premiership 20 Year reunion and 3 tough games of footy.

To the Gosnells President,committee, players and supporters a massive thank you for your support in making it a great occasion.

The colts game was close until after half time when Thornlie snuck away from Gosnells to run out winners.

The reserves was a tough encounter with Gosnells opening up a winning lead with a few quick goals in the 2nd to run out comfortable winners.

The League game saw a fast and ferocious game of footy with Gosnells having control for most of the tussle. At 3 1/4 time Thornlie looked gone being 5 goals down, but to the players credit they came out all guns blazing to go down by a point in a fantastic game of footy.

The Gosnells members and supporters hung around for a beer and awards and it was great to see.

Thanks again to everyone involved in a great day for community footy.
