Interesting ph as the waafl raised the age limit in colts this seaon to try and retain numbers but it doesnt seem to be working and it's not just at c1 level ( have a look at the numbers for stirling and wembley colts in the drew banfield division). Will be interesting if kelmscott win promotion to b grade to see if they are able to get a Colts team together as I think it would be mandatory at that grade next season. Alignment with a junior club is a must to ensure numbers from the year 12's continue through to colts otherwise I'm not sure where in the future these clubs will get the numbers to field a colts team

premiership hangover wrote: colts numbers at alot of clubs is a real issue. I know our club will have to weigh up next year do they go for colts again and struggle for numbers, or do they put in a thirds side and allow these kids to play senior football each weekend with some older players around them to teach them?

Id rather our club have three sides that play each week rather than 2 and a side that play and a third side that struggles for numbers and has to forfeit during the season.

Dont know what the waafl can do about it but colts is dead in alot of older suburbs, and there are other suburbs that have two or even three colts teams.

Its a sad day for footy when any team has to forfeit, but colts teams are what keeps clubs going. It makes me wonder where all the colts are in the areas that are struggling to fill a team. Surely there are plenty on 18-20 year olds in these suburbs. Have these kids lost interest in footy? Too busy getting pissed and getting up in Panda's sloppy seconds?

Yes it is a very sad day when a forfeit happens. Especially when the team is not told on the Friday morning. I know a lot of people that, if told of a forfeit early enough, could have had a much more enjoyable night out on the town, rather than preparing for a game which is not going to be played.

I look forward to the last few rounds of football. Plenty on the line for a lot of clubs. Hopefully teams don't encounter to many forfeits along the way. I think the relegation battle will go right down to the end. But I think the battle for 5th will be over by then. Lets hope some teams not playing finals don't go the knuckle, that's never good to see.

The biggest issue is every time a new suburb opens up they want a footy club, so new familys are moving to new estates and not moving as often into established areas. Kids then want to play with their new mates in their new areas, rather than travel to old grounds and mix with kids they dont see any more. Alot of clubs struggle with numbers in the juniors which just adds to the problem
