After 67 straight years of live radio Olympics Broadcasts the ABC announced they will not broadcast them for the first time.

This organisation really does need the boot, it will no doubt continue to promote inner city causes most people don't relate too,

Growing up the main thing I remember of the ABC Radio was its excellent coverage of WAFL Footy, Cricket (all WA & Australia matches), Racing (both the gallops and trots), Olympic Games & Commonwealth Games.
It would now seem ABC coverage of all of those bar the Australian Cricket Team games at home and in England has gone!
Brilliant Commentators like Dennis Cometti, George Grljusich, Wally Foreman, Drew Morphett, Alan McGillvray, Keith Slater, Glen Mitchell, Kerry O'Keefe, Max Simmonds, Trevor Jenkins, Ian Brayshaw etc became part of the furniture...sad really, feel sorry for the good young ones currently like WA boys Middlemass, Sprigg, Wheeldon & Cameron who wont get the chances many of their contemporaries did back in the day!

6WF Saturday Morning/Arvo was a myriad of sport, Peter ( don't quite recall his surname ) the anchor kept it all together, Max Simmonds led the way with the racing and George G with the footy.

George G was Mr Boxing at the Os.

stt possibly -- but in regards to the actual decision: it is no suprise, as the ethos of the ABC is profoundly anti- Anglo-Australian.

Perhaps the anger should be better directed at Messrs. Abbott, Hockey, Turnbull, Morrison, Frydenberg and Cormann.

After all, they are the architects of the $600,000,000+ cuts to the ABC budget since Abbott's lying pronouncement in 2013:

I am disappointed too but if we want coverage like this it needs to be paid for and the ABC has been eroded over time because their message is not consistent with the world views of the muppets in Canberra. Can only be a commercial decision based at the cost of service - and it really is a damned shame it's turned into a national oddity of sorts

They have plenty of money. Got a nice little leg up from the ’07 alp, get well above CPI every year and have $200 million sitting in the kitty. Give me a break.

Sources of Funds 2012–13
The ABC was allocated $1 030.2 million in the May 2012 Federal Budget and $12.1 million in the 2012–13 Additional Estimates process, totalling $1 042.3 million for the 2012–13 year. The amount allocated to the ABC in the 2013 Federal Budget. $1.03 billion The ABC also received $158.2 million from other sources, including ABC Commercial.

Sources of Funds 2014–15
The ABC was allocated $1 113.6 million in the May 2014 Federal Budget. This was reduced by $0.4 million in the Additional Estimates process in respect of Communications and Public Affairs Function Targeted Savings, with the revised allocation totalling $1 113.2 million for 2014–15.
The ABC also received $155.4 million from other sources, including ABC Commercial.

Sources of Funds 2016–17
The ABC was allocated $1,036.1 million in the May 2016 Federal Budget, reflecting a further decrease in base funding of $27 million related to the previously announced ABC/ SBS Additional Efficiency Savings Measure. In addition to the decrease in base funding, the ABC was also required to return $14 million in 2016–17 as a one-off dividend back to the Government.
The ABC also received $70.4 million from other sources, including ABC Commercial.
