The ABC have a 1 Billion plus annual budget, it manages to run multiple channels , including a 24 hr news service, and about 6 different radio stations, now just think back , how many channels did it have when it covered a host a sport, yes - 1 TV channel and 2 radio channels. It has no trouble spending a mint of them despite collapsing ratings, it made a decision a long time ago to walk away from main stream Australian interests, it doesn't hold back on funding in certain areas, sport and events like the Olympics are no longer any interest to Ultimo. Its a highly political wing of the left so would not be surprised if they did this an as anti government stunt.

Aunty wanted to do 5 years forward budgeting but legally the Turnbull government couldn’t do it as the ABC is funded by Parliamentary Act Appropriation Bills No’s 1 and 2 annually.

That’s only once a financial year. One, not five. Uno.

So like all the other entities receiving taxpayer’s money, state and federal, Aunty got stared down.
For decades she received well above CPI.
The ABC can keep those incomes not directed towards consolidated revenue including the interest from the $200 million kitty it has built up.
So you can play with those figures and find they made more than the quoted $254 mill.

A contract not signed is not lost income. Book keeping 101. Plus the project was found wanting. Scratch $196.8 mill.

The rest is arbitrary budgeting. Just because you put it in your budget doesn’t mean you’re entitled to have it. Some of those items are also to do with the SBS cross reference savings.

Here is another set of numbers for you to argue about - while forgetting the the reason the ABC is cutting their Olympic coverage is because of heavy budget cuts, since the lying Tony Abbott said in 2013 it wouldn't happen.

These numbers suggest cuts to the ABC of ~$780 million between 2015/16 - 2022/23.

It may be a strategic move by the ABC. The Australian Olympic Committee are already talking about approaching the owners of the rights to negotiate a special deal with the ABC given their reach into rural and remote areas

Get rid of some of those junk radio stations programmes for the Greenies.Maby the government could give them some more money for the Olympics. The ABC also tried this in the mid 90's with the test cricket.
