What the hell does the WAFC think its doing? This decision is totally ludicrous and beyond comprehension. All this will do is cause the kids and parents to walk away from football and take up another sport. The WAFC is ruining the game in this state, along with the AFL.

HI Swan. My two boys age 12 and 13 are in the East Perth District. The East Pert District joins the Swans and Perth district from year 8 and is called the centra district. As I said we are in the EP part of that district and they told us if we have two or three teams in one year group - we should do everything we can to make them as even as possible. Our president is very big on this - he is a bit of a stickler - and I must admit has coped a bit of shite because of this. Anyway our year 8 group have indeed spilt our two teams evenly. We have played each other this year and the game was a draw. We are both in A division. We are 5th and 6th on the ladder.

What pisses me and many others off is that the top team in A grade beat everyone by 10 goals a week - yet the same club has a team in C grade that have not won a game and lose by nearly 10 goals a week.

So what is happening here is that my club is playing by the rules and splitting their best amongst two teams but other club are not.

I would be happy to have the best of our two teams combine - but the rules set up have said we don't allow this.

Therefore I am very happy to see the WAFC step in and take a hard line.

They should do it with the team in my comp who win a grade but lose c grade.

Oh and they should do it with Subiaco as well
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Great post TFAF. Didn’t know about the situation you describe but what you say makes sense. If there is one thing afl has got right it is equalisation. The problem is wafc talk the talk but do nothing at wafl level. It’s weird this has come up because I remember as a boy that our club used to stack one of 3 or 4 sides with the talent and I used to think ‘that’s not fair’. Of course I was in the good team not.

While I agree that the AFL and WAFC have ruined football in WA the recent actions against South Coogee Juniors is fair and reasonable.
We need to rid the game of Hero parents and Hero coaches at Junior level.
Some coaches and clubs see it as a personal failure if their team doesn't win, when what they should see as a failure is if the children don't come back next year.
In all my days as a coach at Junior level I never saw a really talented player disadvantaged by not playing in a super team.
What I did see was many players discouraged by been beaten up every week by a team loaded with a clubs best players in that grade all in the one team when they had another team in that grade struggles.
The cream rises to the top eventually and just because you are the best player at that age level doesn't mean you are going to remain better than the rest as years go on.
Players develop at different ages and we must ensure they don't get discouraged before they have the chance to develop.

I played juniors against South Coogee in the early 80's in under 12's and sat on the bench and came on for the under 14's - there was a guy playing that day for South Coogee called Gary Jakovich (who I think played league for South in 84/85 and the way he played was pretty bloody unfair to the rest of us that's for sure.

Great post swan man, this is what happens when a coach and parents do what they want. The majority of other sides at SCJFC are split pretty even.
Next year I am thinking of offering up my sheep station to the winner of the U/8s comp.

Not sure how I feel about this one seeing how the “good” team is 5 and 4. Hardly dominating the competition.
However, the last thing a kid’s comp needs is a Subiaco in it.
Who was that twit from the WAFC that was interviewed and pointed out that every comp from the kids to the AFL was regulated to keep
The comps equal? Really? Do you know that the WAFL is actually suffering from inequality?

You can see why George Grljusich refused to touch a conversation about junior football on any of his radio shows.

Fortunately or unfortunately a lot of the parents in a footy team form friendships with the other parents over the years as their children go thru the ranks.
Works better if their kids are also good players.

Therefore the club has to say there will be equalisation from the earliest age group up not later on in their junior career.

Teach the parents, not the kids but don’t change the goalposts half way thru the game.
