So we had a team go through undefeated and play in their 5th straight GF in an era where the WAFC has had "equalization" as a mantra for at least 10 years. Not only that but they were the only club to win a flag in any grade.
WP went broke and trashed the image of the WAFL and were paid by the WAFC to play in the finals and then totally embarrassed themselves.
EP decided they had got what they want out of their streetwalking and decided to go straight but even now we don't know what the comp will look like next year.
The dual reigning premiers couldn't even make finals exposing the farcical nature of their performance being totally reliant on matters outside of the "club".
We only had 18 rounds for reasons not yet explained (but looks like because WAFC knew WCE would have a stand alone club but didn't bother to tell us).
We won the State game - any other positives or am I right in thinking this was worst year ever?

all good points you've made there StT...I guess the other positive is that 4 sides were theoretically in the mix for the last 2 finals spots right up to the last round. The improvement of Perth is also a big positive....but that was probably offset to some extent by EF who have become a basket case. I also thought a crowd of 25k at the GF was pretty good and augers well for the future when clubs like SD, SF and Perth finally get in the GF mix.

Agree on GF crowd BC and have to say the atmosphere was very good also. It built up nicely toward the end and you got the feeling there was something special about Subi wining after losing the last two. I can only imagine what it would have been like in a close game - I reckon v v special.

STT you need to detail this all in an email to the WAFC who sit in their ivory tower at Roberts Rd believing everything is just marvellous in the WAFL at the minute.
They have got absolutely NO IDEA what the real hardcore WAFL fans opinion is of the League and its running atm and that is it has never been more lopsided in its 133 year history and real supporters have had enough of it!

It is a bright sunny day, the birds are having a good time, the folks are sitting around enjoying a day at the park and there is always someone sitting with a cloud bemoaning something or other.

To me the season was ok, some great football played by all teams at all levels. Some new emerging stars to watch out for from all teams, Bain, Pickett, Dobson, Ninyette et al all great to see and develop.

Yep we will never like all the stuff that goes on but ok Subi are the bigger pariah at the moment (took over from EP) but come on to go through as a club and win all there grades is pretty good. Yep WP took a cowards way out rather than do the honorable thing but that was their choice and in hindsight it means they survive and even from an EP supporters view that is an ok thing.

The umpiring was ok especially now that the family junta have lost control, although there are some disquieting developments with the new managers role the payment process (no guesses which club he came from).

The development processes are on track despite the AFL's interference and looks ok!

There are some worries and to me the biggest is the farcical decision abt the potential for the women to replace the ressies, bad bad bad idea!

Oops forgot the state games, WA have been undefeated for how long and their relevance is abt state PRIDE!

Rather than bemoan celebrate what your club achieved!

Sounds like a bloody good summary to me.

TBH the State Game has little relevance these days.

The SANFL looks a hell of a lot more healthy than the WAFL as a comp and has done for years.

Its amazing - the work the AFL has done the equalise the comp at the highest level, yet in the WAFL the reverse has happened over the last 20 years, the comp had a lot more diversity in Grand Finalists in the 70s and 80s than it does now. This year was farcical with the dominance of one club. It was a no brainer who was going to win the GF ..and then by 13 goals an embarrassing end to a sick comp.

More chaos next year with the advent of the WCE reserves team.

Apparently the cost of the licence for them will go from 450K to 800K , giving 100K each to trad clubs.

Crowd was about 5k more than I expected which was good, lets not forget the first even GF at the stadium novelty factor.

I think you should always aspire to be the best. We have a long hard road back to the top. I don’t begrudge Subiaco their success. It is always easy to play the blame game and not acknowledge your own shortcomings. I hope we get a full and complete financial account of when and how our club ended up in the financial mess it is in. Having said that the boys represented their club proudly and as Grump suggests our supporters should be proud of what they achieved.
