Don't rate Reid at all, no ticker.

Am really surprised at Garth's Shield averages. Didn't let down in the tests though.

You don't rate Bruce Reid? And no ticker? are you sure about that?? He was a better bowler than both Mathews and Julian, and world class batsmen that faced him at his best have said if he wasnt cruelled by injury he would have been one of the best of all time, world wide!

Yep as you say Swannie , Bruce Reid was an outstanding bowler - real shame his back let him down , would easily rank up with our very best ever a very destructive bowler as was demonstrated

Too laconic a character to get revved up for test cricket.

All his best work was done at home not overseas.

Rated #48 of all time ashes bowlers in 2010, well below Graham McKenzie.

Serviceable state record but the others get the edge with their batting and fielding.

There wouldn't be one player who played against both Reid and Julian who would rather face Chook than BJ

Bruce Reid took 113 wickets from only 27 Tests at an average of 24.63.
He is in the top echelon of bowlers we have produced in WA behind the incomparable Lillee, McKenzie and on a par with Alderman.
He took 10 wickets in a match in 2 consecutive Boxing Day Tests vs the Poms & India 90/91-91/92.
If only he wasnt plagued by injury especially his chronic back issues that caused his premature retirement.

Bruce Reid definitely in the best half dozen fast bowlers produced by WA.

I am sticking with the Reid as well. He can't help it if he got injurred. Lito the rebel tours lliee went down injurred, but people would not question his heart. The truth about Julian, at least at test level, was that he did better at batting than bowlling. He once helped SR Waugh save an Ashes test in England with a fighting innings.

Sotherner: you were right that Wessels had his good fortune, ranging from WSC to the rebel tours, after which, he was accepted again in South Africa. I disliked him a wee bit as a kid as he took Wood's spot, but on the whole he gave us good service. He was treatted very badly by Malcolm Fraser, whom on being introduced to Wessels, refussed to shake the South Africa's hand.

Graeme Wood eventually came back in at first drop - got a hundred from memory too (might have been against the Windies here in Perth I think)

Only real dislike I had for Kep was at the very end of his career where he had nothing but spite & anger for Australia , he had a lot of bitterness in him when playing for SA.

But like Allan Lamb , Robin Smith , Graeme Hick , Tony Greig , Basil DÓliveira he was afforded opportunites many other SA cricketers didn't get until way too late (or never at all)

I think Woody was only really dropped beacuse he was a shocker for calling for the quick single - he ran out a heap of partners & himself too many times early on

In four Melbourne Tests the Aussie beanpole Bruce Reid took 35 wickets at 13.57, grabbed 10 wickets in a Test twice and generally made a mess of some quality batting line-ups.
