Beautifully done BH -- thanks for your response as always. I was thinking of being born in WA, whhich of course, excludes Martyn and Gilchrist, but includes Dave Hussey. In any case, they were all good players -- I have always rememberred Laid's century against the WI fast bowllers at their best supportted by KJ Hughes.

Hughes, naturally is the noticable absentee from the list .

Yes true AR Marto was born in Darwin from memory but moved to gods own country as a toddler so I definitely claim him as a WA boy.
Yes KJ was very unlucky to play in an era where few odi 100s were scored by anyone let alone a batsman who didn't open or come in first drop if he played in this current era he would average 50 with the bat in both forms of cricket I have no doubt.

BH: Geoff Marsh's record is very under-ratted in terms of ODI, considerring the crap pitches he had to bat on in those days. Unfortunately, from a WA point of view, DC Boon got a lot of the plaudiits. Hughes, on the other hand, as you said, made up for his poor record in ODC with brillant batting for WA and Australia in teats. Particularly, in the Shield, he set up a lot of games with a quick fire thirty or forty for the bowllers to win.

It appears Renshaw got a private nets session with Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Bird today in front of the selectors.....from all reports he put in a solid session....thus no doubt securing his openers spot.....touch wood this show of loyalty by the selectors kicks starts the kid into making some runs....we all know good net form equates to runs on the big arena...LOL.

Bancroft surely gets a look in at 6 if not selected to open....if not then not too sure what elae the guy needs to do......reckon 4 bowlers will be enough to roll over the poms batting line up, its not as though Cartwright or Maxwell are gonna add anything on the bowling front.....might as well play Bancroft there.

Gotta feeling Smiths desire for a yappy keeper will see Wade keep his spot.....thank fark Doohan is scoring big and depriving Wade a chance to bat and make some runs....wonder if Paine may sneak a spot?

I sense a bit of hubris amongst the Australian public about this series. Make no mistake this is not a great Australian team. They are inferior to the team of 2013 -14 who had Johnson and Harris as front line bowlers and had a solid if unspectacular batting line up including Rogers, Warner, Clarke, Watson and Smith also an excellent keeper/ batsman/leader in Haddin. The 2017-18 version has an excellent bowling line up but the batting is vulnerable to collapse as it has done on a number of occasions in the last few years. If England can get their act together this will be a very interesting series.

England's biggest problem will be James Vince, the worst number three they have brought out to Australia.

A lot of news outlets including Cricket.com reporting that Bancroft, Tim Paine and Smarsh are in the eleven, poor old Marshy is gonna cop it on social media.
