It's probably against the laws of the game now for all I know...?

I suspect the reason is that the company responsible for collating the statistics don't have a column for it and therefore it is of no import.

I was having a conversation with another old football tragic like myself who grew up in the 70s, 80s, 90s footy and both of us were in total agreement that our love of the game we grew up with in those eras has almost completely diminished.
The loss of traditional positional play and the one on one battles all day between the Full Forward/Full Back, CHF/CHB, Rover vs Rover etc it is now a mish mash of 36 players in the one half, constant interchanging of players all day long, the complete and utter over use of handball to rack up just pointless, meaningless stats, the lack of basic 1%ers like tackling, shepherding, blocking for team mates as there is no stat in it, the backwards, sideways, anywhere but forward keepys off where no one wants to back there team mates in one on one with a long kick forward.
I honestly believe this game we all love is now currently a shadow of the sport that was and watching a few old tapes from the 80s leaves me in no doubt that is the case.
Thank you to all the defensive minded coaches of the modern era who have almost completely destroyed this former great game as they were more intent in keeping there high paid coaching gigs than providing an aesthetically pleasing viewing to the paying public who ultimately pay their high paid wages!

Spot on mate! My biggest wish is to be able to hop in a time tunnell and go to the 70s/80s and stay there for good. Everything was better, footy, cricket, politics, journalism, music, no political correct bullshit etc no mobile phones or computers etc only bad thing was interest rate were farkin high!!
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

BH let's not forget the wise men who feel a compulsion to change the rules year by year in a never ending quest to make it the worst spectacle and a hybrid of rugby, league and soccer. Finally, credit should also go to the modern day commentators for such appalling foreign phrases suck as quarterback, catch etc. Master commentators like Frank Sparrow would be spinning in their graves.

Great point Swan 42. There are some commentators on tv that I can't stand listening to. Brererton is one with his inane waffling. Another is Brian Taylor especially his Americanising of our great old term sold the dummy. He always says sold him some candy. Give me a break.

What the shit is an UNDERGROUND handball. Nowdays you cant fend off with an arm to the face ( but Toby says a foot is OK). Have not worked out the difference between incorrect disposal & the ball spilling free. Both look identical. There are plenty more just to spoil the game. Only seen live two AFL games this year.

I'm glad this topic has been brought up as I'm sick of seeing 36 players in one third of the field. I want to see more one one contests across the entire oval. It must be annoying for fans at the game to see so many players congregated around the ball. My solution is to reduce the number of interchange players from 4 to 2. This would prevent players particularly in the back line from having a rest on the bench. They would have to rest on the field thus preventing them having enough energy to run down to their forward 50 to lock in the ball. At the moment the game is looking like basketball and waterpolo.

Cesspit...I'm with you on Brereton....he's commentated on the last 3 AFL games in Perth and his mindless dissection of the most unimportant trivia that happens each week on the field bores me shitless. Christ, haven't Fox Sports realised we've suffered enough?

A little pet hate of mine is how a teams backline or defence is now called "back six"

Run with player, quarter backer, deeeefence, offfffence, do we have a wingman or rover now? these things peeve me, but I maintain that watching 2 very highly skilled teams is riveting. Lightening reflexes in tight situations make me wonder how they do it.

Interestingly they are on track for record total attendances this season.
However I do miss the days of one on one contests and abhor the ugly look of flooding where all 36 players can be within the 50 at either end.
I rue the loss of the power forward and am disgusted that the skill of kicking goals from set shots has almost been entirely lost with most players preferring to kick on the run. How is this possible with all the specialist coaches and training at clubs these days? Amateur footballers are better kicks for goal!!
