The difference is that was then and this is now. Labor now realizes being aligned with the Greens is not popular among traditional Labor voters and that's why they separated themselves from doing any deal with the Greens last time around.

One Nation is famous for imploding and Rod Culleton was just a taste of what is to come. They attract a bunch of wannabe politicians with no experience and already the Liberal Party, the Nationals are poles apart on policy pardon the pun. Pauline Hanson has stated they are against the privatization of Western Power while Liza Harvey has stated if they win the election they will have a mandate to sell off Western Power. Lol that's a great start.

A vote for One Nation or the Liberals is a vote for Chaos for the next 4 years, if we already haven't experienced enough of it.

DD...I don't disagree with your views on PHON but I guess it just goes to show how disenchanted punters are with the two main parties that they'll vote for such a disorganised rabble. I for one, don't blame anyone for voting PHON as I think PC has pushed us too far left and pollies should tell it like it is rather than worrying about being branded as racists, misogynists, environmental terrorists and so on by the vocal minority. Hanson and Bernardi are lunatics but they do have a point around heavy vetting of immigrants and protecting the last shreds of national identity we have. Multiculturalism ain't what it's cracked up to be and groups like Middle Eastern refugees add little to our social fabric imo.

Not sure where your coming from DD, But its pretty much certain Greens will pref. ALP before Libs and ALP will pref. Greens before Libs, they always do.

Well correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Bill Shorten stated quite clearly at the last election Labor would not be entering into any "deals" with the Greens. Now whether that means giving them preference over other parties or not I don't know but it's pretty obvious they would preference them and anyone else over Liberal.

Clearly Barny couldn't give a rats arse about Pauline Hanson and One Nation and vice versa. They are both out to advance their own interests and both have said that. It is a recipe for disaster if this happens. We will be known as the State of Dysfunction!

We are talking preference deals here , nothing else, and Libs put ON last in when Gallop won and that helped delivered ALP victory. This time they wont have that luxury.

BC surely you are not suggesting that the ALP of today would be left of say Gough Whitlam's ALP Government?

Please explain what exactly is the "national identity"?

As I have pointed out previous Australia has been enriched by those refugees who came to Australia after the Second World War and after the Vietnam War. I personally have no reason to expect that it won't be any different with the most recent wave of refugees. That is not to say that there won't be some problems with respect to criminal activities within that cohort. That would be no different than previous waves of refugees.

Finally, I will again point out that vilifying a group based on religion, as the likes of Pauline Hanson and Cory Bernardi do, is not a solution but worsens the problems.
