It will be interstting to see what happens to the preferences of the ON votters; I would say that at least 10 per cent of them would usually vote for the ALP as a general rule

Wow with 4 weeks to go to the State Election a can of worms has been opened.As i posted earlier today its looks really difficult for THE ALP.Needing 12 seats with some requiring over a 10% swing.
A bit of confusion this morning.The Government said some proceeds from the 50% Western Power sale.Will go to education funding.There coalition partner One Nation opposed the Western Power sale last week????
The Emperor will be a big winner as he doesnt deserve another 4 years.But does this have ON supoorters confused as they cant stand both Labour and Liberal and there lies.Pauline has hopped into the swamp also.Most her voters think she represents Trumpism in Australia.

Sorry Unka2 that is patent nonsense. Over numerous elections and in the upcoming state election the ALP has not and WILL NOT preference in any other position than last. The exact same position I will be placing the One Nation candidate for Belmont (behind G Godfrey the failed Liberal member for Belmont).

gtr I agree 100 per cent -- you can't get more establishment than giving your preferences to to the Liberal party.

The ALP needs to make the election about WA --- transport, health and so on
they need to actually say 'don't vote for a Queenslander'

Just on Labour Ark they have done a lot to hurt there traditional base over the years.
1.They gave the Greens there start.And the Greens have been stealing there supporters ever since.
2.Apart from 07 they havnt really come up with strong education policys.Maby Gonsky.
3.Attacked the LNP over health in the last few days of the last federal election.But no big health reforms for a while now.Medicare will collapse one day if changes arnt made.
4.Supported the L/NP on free trade and globalisation.Started by Keating and Hawke and there Blue Collar base has become an endangered species.

their policies have helpped to abolish the working class -- lowering tariffs, lowering subsidies, denationationalising industries, enterprise bargaining, high immigration intake -- all done to varying degrees by Whitlham, Hawke and Keating

Thatcher followed similar policies in the UK -- exactlly the same -- and yet, most of the ALP members hated her but not Hawke and Keating. How is that possible? Perhaps they were irrational?

Can you imagine the Liberal Party running policies which abolished the small business class?

They need to go back to protection of the working class in the following areas:

industrial relations--
trade policy -- tariffs to promote industry
economic policy -- aim should be full-employment especially as we have low inflation
immigration -- restriction on numbers and origins -- a restriction on numbers alone would help house prices in Sydney at a stroke' 200,000 immigrants a year is a lot.
social security policy -- start by getting rid of the name 'centrelink' and actually calling the thing 'social security' again. Howard re-named it for ideological reasons.
abandon greenism --- you cannot advocate a policy which will make the less well off poorer and expect to win their votes.

If they do all or some of those things, I think they can win the punters back. We know it will not happen in the short run because most of the ALP elite hate the working class.
