Once again Hodyl is the only President to stand up for the WAFL and the lower levels of WA footy especially now that Raponi has gone.
Who are these other faceless club leaders I wonder?
We know 3 clubs Pres won't say boo as they are AFL reliant puppets but where are the SF, EF, C, P, Presidents and come to think of it actually who are they?

Good on Hodyl, time for others to speak up. Raponi was a fighter and we need more to step up.
Bronte should take over the WAFL.

The money they are asking for is compensation for lost future earnings from being asked to cancel there long term agreement well before it's expiry date.

The same as Subiaco received compensation for also having to give up their long term lease of Subi oval for training and games.

It's reasonable to expect that $10m+ per annum was going to be earned until the end of the lease which the offer of $100m falls short of.

The WAFC have run a self sustaining business. Without these future earnings the WAFL clubs who receive $650k per annum are the ones in trouble. WCs $50m in the bank means $50m+ has also been put back into WA footy plus 50% of the profit Freo has made since their first profitable year around 2007.

You can't criticise the WAFC for not looking after the WAFL and then criticise them for trying to get the best compensation deal which will see the WAFL clubs continue to be funded substantially.

Clearly you have no farking idea about the issue or its history, Subi Oval was resumed from the council by the State Government in 89, when the WAFL went broke, the WAFC was formed and the WAFC was granted a 99 year lease for SFA, read Duffields article on this mobs free ride at the espense of the states tax payer since then and enlighten youself ffs.

Peppercorn leases such as the one at Subi Oval are offered by a number of local councils and the state govt to several sporting organisations. Claremont Oval was on a peepercorn lease and many of the Surf Life Savings clubs also benefit from them.

It's irrelevant if it's council or state government land, it's not owned by the WAFC, they are just a tenant with a long term lease which they have now been asked to give up well before that agreement expires. With the state government owing it then it only strengthens the WAFCs claim for compensation for loss of future earnings.

Do you understand that contracts, even with government are binding. A breach of contract will result in a claim being made against the party in breach.

If the WAFC were good enough to negotiate a long term contract with the state govt that costs sfa for them to use Subi oval then good on them as it has served to benefit all levels of footy in WA by providing better profit levels to reinvest.

I've read the article and heard Duffield on 720 this arvo and I'm glad he put it in as an opinion piece because it lacks any journalistic skill and at best involves 'alternate facts'. He banged on about how the AFL should contribute to the build cost of the new stadium. Why is football being asked to contribute to the build cost when it only hires the facility from Venues Live who pay the State govt a management fee and pocket the profits. Is Soccer expected to contribute to the build cost as they will use it to host Chelsea. Does Cricket Australia or the WACA have to contribute to the build cost as they will use it for Ashes Tests and BBL fixtures. No they are just required pay the hire fee, and that should be the only expectation from Football for utilising the new stadium.

Freezin to put it as succinctly and blunt as one can: According to Peter Hodyl (SDFC President) Duffield was not telling the TRUTH with respect to the $29 million and the SDFC. It is now very much in Duffield's court to provide evidence to substantiate his claim or he needs to provide an unqualified apology to the SDFC.

Opps changed tack now to peppercorn leases - Yep you got it wrong - Stop defending the undefendable, there is a HUGE difference between a "peppercorn" leases on not for profit surf clubs and huge multi million dollar businesses that make millions each year charge the highest seat costs in Australia are a massively profitable.

Despite that they continue the drip feed - Now sucking money out of taxpayers that should be directed to health or educational services and you say "good on them"

The AFL will be the major tenant and major beneficiary of the new Stadium, what have they put in??

I'd tell them to stay at the embarrassing shit hole that is Subi and then send them the bill for all the construction tax payers have paid for with interest see how they go with that. Further any other State Govt Support would cease forthwith.

It is time for all the traditional WAFL clubs to stand up for the integrity and viability of the WAFL competition.

Its interesting that he touches on the Elephant in the room - the real one here, that is the pittance that the two local AFL clubs put back to local clubs, he glances over it and then quickly moves on...if he had real balls he would of gone for it, but obviously doesn't want to upset the apple cart.

He is rights about the AFL women's crap, and the fact that there has been a league going here for 10 yrs that absolutely nobody watches or gives a rats arse about.

He also discreetly avoids just how much football in this state has been supported by taxpayers money since Burke bailed them out in 1989.
