Changing to an AUSTRAIAN head of state WOULD HAV NO adverse affect on the stability of the Australian democracy but would show to the rest of the world we have finally grown up and don't need a foreign head of state. For those who support a foreign head of state: perhaps we should bring back the Privy Council as well.

Judging the crap the pollies have dished up last decade or two - can you hardly blame them, not a sad indictment just a reality.

How can you make a ridiculous sweeping statement regarding stability when:

1. The republican cant even decide on a model
2. Don't know the details of that model, the constitution or how it will work.
3. who will ever be president, the influence and power they will have or who will control them.
4. the contemporary failures of republics around the world that are resulting in mass street protests.
