It is going to be another long bloody season from all appearances. How come three 'test batsmen' can't make three hundred on that pitch?

Is Paris injured?.....the bowlers must of been pretty ordinary if Cooper can make a 100.......looks like Marsh may need to make a 100 for WA to get at least 175 in front.....if they do that I reckon SA batting card could get rolled over.....big ask though.....interesting to see Marcus Harris in the runs for Victoria......

One swallow doesn't make a summer, but you couldn't really get more of a disappointing start to the season for the Warriors. Comprehensively outplayed by SA at the WACA. Sean Marsh and Cartright excepted, a sub standard batting performance in both innings and a bowling attack that leaked runs at an alarming rate. Kudos to the SA bowlers who fought back well under lights on Day 1 and Ferguson and Cooper who scored centuries. Voges, Mitch Marsh, Agar and Bancroft were all very disappointing. How Nathan Rimmington could have been left out of this team given the bowling performance is beyond me.
Justin Langer would be scratching his head and demanding a better effort in the next game in Sydney.

Unfortunately Paris won't be back till the big bash Freezin as he is recovering from injury

No, they still need 37 Grassy, not sure why they wouldn't have claimed the extra half hour. Light wouldn't have been a problem for sure

I can't believe the selection of M. Marsh. I would not even have him in the state side, at least not as an all-rounder. They should be playing one of Burns, Ferguson, Pattinson or Bird before him at six. If you played Burns, for example, Kawaja could bat down the order at six. Smith and Warner can do some bowlling if Australia needs to buy a wicket or rest the bowllers.

Marsh's record: 64 Shield games and averages 30. We should almost underline the 64 number, as he is actually quite an experienced player, whatever the media and 6pr listeners, may say otherwise, and he has failled for WA with the bat.

Can anyone think of a middle order batsman whom played even close to 64 matches for WA with those figures? Wayne Andrews -- solid player in a stronger Shield competition -- averaged a respectable 37.00. After him, players, such as, Katich, Hussey and Martyn batted with aplomb in the middle order.

I use to take the piddle out of the national selectors for continuing to indulge Watson as a supposed all-rounder.

We have had -- Australia -- only one true all rounder at that was Miller -- he averaged 37 with the bat and 22 with the ball, possibly Armstrong; the others, Noble, Benaud and so on, were bowlers whom could bat a bit. There is a big difference between the two cricket animals.

You could make a case for M Marsh playing as a bowller in the state side. He has an average of 28.00, one which is passable in this day an age of cricket; but, and this is the key difference from what the WA and national selectors insist on doing, he would bat at number 7 or 8.

This would have to be his last chance almost, he has been selected on name and promise in state and International cricket instead of bashing the door down with 100's and 5 wicket halls
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

What the hell is going on with the Shield side? Looks like a 2nd consecutive heavy defeat in Sydney. There have been some good individual performances such as Agar taking a 6 wicket haul, but the bowling in general has been very ordinary and the batting has been prone to collapse in both games. Two guys in particular who have been very disappointing so far have been Bancroft and Whiteman who could have been pushing for higher honours had they performed better.

A long way to go but JL would be very concerned about this start to the season.

The Shield drought looks like continuing on for another long season Mike.
I would be asking the question why some of our most talented young batsmen are continually leaving for other States namely Vic or NSW- Harris, Stoinis, Beaton and previously Rogers, Katich, Simmons, Doroupoulos, Dighton?

..as PN says WA nearly pinched in the end.....Bancroft has never recovered from missing out going to Bangladesh TBH....missing Paris in the bowling department.....hopefully Carder and Inglis can get a go soon....Wells is a 2nd eleven Graham Hick....soon as he steps up he is found wanting.....very similar to his Tassie career.....early days but disappointing to be 0/2 after 2.....looks like NSW v Vic with SA in the shadows.....with all the rest playing catch up....though Qld have a good spread of youngsters in Heazlett, Renshaw, Wildermuth, Swepson, Sketetee and Stanlake.....
