We have a far stronger tradition of playing the big final at the one venue, very much akin to FA Cup and Wembley , we don't follow the yank system in that way. It's locked in the the foreseeable future for another 20 years or so, so its just to far off to even contemplate, I cant see sponsors wanting it moved from the MCG either, plus the build up and hype in melbourne is pretty engrained, for example look at the North Melbourne GF Breakfast its huge regardless of who is playing, it would just not be the same over here.

For now the MCG is the Australian Rules sporting Mecca, and until another venue can get that status I cant see it moving.

Im not counting it out altogether, but its a bloody long way off, too long to even worry about.

Arent the Eagles building their new training facility to the same dimensions as the MCG? that should give you some idea of the status it holds and its long term future.

Fremantle good a good fixture with Hawks only once. Only one game one the MCG where they dont perform well. Problem is they are on the SKIDS. GONE

They made the grand final.
Then again they are a better side than the Shockers aren't they!
Sadly the Dockers have had their one GF for a while.

Pray tell...why the fk do I have to "toughen up"??? :pinch:

I'm told that the humming in your ears and those strange voices in your head could probably be cured if you see the right Doc. Give it a try mate, then we can talk sense.

Yes we do have that tradition Bazza, we had it for 100 years at Subiaco here in WA, they had the same tradition at Footy park and Adelaide oval in SA and in Victoria they had it at the MCG.
It is now a national comp not a state comp. tradition has been expired because of money now.
Things to look forward to in the future of Australian football, we may not be here to see it but it is a certainty.
Grand Final will not always be at the MCG
Salary cap will be gone and the game will be about money.
Protective gear will be worn by players.
Private ownership of clubs will happen.

Hope I am dead before those things happen, I think you are delusional If you think the GF will be played anywhere but the MCG, it just will not happen, ever

Didn't you know it had subclauses, like excluding the Hawks in finals time.

Im Inclined to agree with Swandog, will never happen in light years - as I said if it ever does happen it will be that far off none of us will be here.

What tradition ? we have never played a national GF here, and have never had 100,000 seat stadium, drawing on WAFL tradition is irrellevant and will be even more so in 50 yrs, the WAFL will not exist as we know it in 50 yrs, that will happen for certain.

I remember when they moved the FA Cup Final to Cardiff while Wembley was being rebuilt, everybody could not wait for it to move back,,what are the chances of it moving again..NIL.

It puts $100 million into Victoria's income. Why would they want to shift it away. Tickets sell for ridiculous amounts well in advance. It COULDN'T be staged any other place with SEVEN days notice to the top team after the Prelim finals.
