Superficially it is going to be harder for the ALP to beat a MT led coalition government and also noting that since the Second World War there has never been a one term Federal Government. HOWEVER, the problem that Turnbull will face as he heads toward the Federal election that his views, expressed often, is contrary on many of the issues that he agreed to prior to the leadership spill. Things like Climate Change and the best method to tackle it is through an ETS. The changes Abbott made to the NBN is doubly difficult for MT as he has the technical expertise, and people know that, to understand that the changes will result in far slower speeds and a vastly inferior product. There are many more examples where his views are on the product record and are vastly at odds with what he has agreed to prior to the vote.

Bit more simple than that s42. Its who people LIKE. They liked Rudd, despite those who worked with him hated him, hence he always polled better than Julia. The public hated Gillard, nuff said. Voters hated Tont so he went. Voters like Malcolm and hate Bill Shorten, so Malcolm wins the election. its a popularity contest nowadays as the general public cant work out the policies of either party, cos they are generally blockheads.

absolutely on the money unka....its a personal popularity contest these days given policies of both sides of the political fence are very similar. Labor no longer represents the rank and file given less than 20% of the working population belong to unions and the Libs aren't just in it for business after the hammering Work Choices received...so its down to who comes across the most charismatic.

Interesting listening to 2GB yesterday that they were dressing up this coup as a front stabbing and not aback stabbing! WTF haha , The Libs are in denial..so is Joe Hockey atm it seems too  he can fark orf back to his million dollar mansions..will be very interesting if Turnbull can be honest with himself let alone the Australian public. He will be pushing shit uphill[/quote]

Now when i wonder did either side have a pm like that??

Yeh I suppose, honest pollies don't last, I think back to John Hewson

Another dead man walking, Kevin Andrews, is now answering one of his last questions as Minister of Defence. I do use the term answering very, very loosely.

Malcolm Turnbull has clearly been shown what the ALP's strategy will be leading up to the next Federal election. He will have put himself on record as disavowing himself from all the views he has had previously in order to get elected as leader of the Liberal Party.

A comment on how ungraceful T Abbott was once he was rolled speaks volumes about his character. Whatever your view of Rudd and Gillard they had the COURAGE to face the media on the night of their downfall.

Now we have another dead man walking answering the question, Peter Dutton. This is the guy who thinks that Pacific nations under threat of being inundated and the former PM is a big joke. He is also the same person as Shadow Minister for Health in the previous parliament asked a total of three questions in the entire term of the parliament. He is also the one who allegedly texted his resignation to MT. What a quality character and action from a Minister of the Australian government.

Has anyone seen T Abbott in parliament this week?

Bit simplistic Swan, TA has stayed away from the media to give MT some clean air and that is a sensible and professional thing to do, he has also committed to staying in parliament at least until the next election, thus avoiding the need for an expensive by-election in what is a very safe Lib seat, again that is putting his party and the parliament ahead of any desire he may have of moving on to a new chapter, that should be respected.

As for MT any sensible political operator will take his time to settle in get their cabinet in order asap then get on with governing. MT is not your Whitlam type character who wants to recreate the world in 7 days (GW did have a massive god complex),let the dust settle and initially work within the current policy frameworks while putting his case, which he is much better at than TA to the cabinet and party room for gradual change. The voting punters generally don't like rapid change as it indicates panic, so I expect he will follow a sure and gradual path and look to carry his troops with him rather than the small insular group that TA had making decisions and presenting them to cabinet as a fait accompli. very similar to KRudd in fact.

It is the rabid press that have turned our system into a presidential style popularity contest and the degeneration of the profession of journalism to 10 second door stop grabs that can be twisted and turned which ever way the TV stations in particular want to spin it. Lets hope MT can stay true to his commitment to reverting the position of PM back to what it's true position was as a Primary minister amongst equals.

We live in hope.

So UNKA2 he won't want to be paid for this week then? He should have had the grace to acknowledge that he lost the leadership spill after the vote and announced that he would be resigning the Prime Ministership the following morning.

SS it didn't take too long for there to be a leak from cabinet post-leadership spill. Any comment?

Serioulsy, serioulsy s42 that really got to you?. Would you rather his behaviour mirror that of Rudd and Gillard for YEAR after YEAR, they were a disgrace. Mind you Bily Shortens behaviour throughout Gillard Rudd has been of the highest integrity, would you agree?

Unka2 AT SHOWED not a scintilla of grace or class by taking his bat and ball and going home without facing the press. Just so you don't complain about alleged ABC bias the fact that T Abbott didn't face the media on the night was remarked several times by Sky News' commentators. It is not just my view that he should have faced the media that nigth.

With respect to the change of leadership I have acknowledged that it will make it harder for the ALP to win the next election. However, it will be interesting to hear how M Turnbull can rationalise his own private views which are on the public record and his contrary official coalition position.

ETS versus direct action is just one of the paradoxes between MT's personal and government positions.

I believe TA only took a page out of the play book from that great labor luminary L.A.W. Paul Keating when he lost to John Howard and resigned, without sitting in parliament again.
