Yes not ideal to take out your leader/PM mid term but it was a seriously pragmatic thing to do, Abbott was so on the nose with the electorate it was almost a dead cert that the CFMEU's Golden boy Shorton would carry labor to power at the next election winning mainly because his opposite number was such a dead weight. Still in the end it's the right move to get a leader who's much more articulate and can get the policy messages across, something Abbott was simply not capable of doing.
I'm more a centre right Liberal so quite pleased with MT's philosophies and policy positions and he's smart enough not to charge into too much policy change to start with, he needs to get the cabinet reshuffle done asap so they can get on with the job, Hockey is also GORN, what a disappointment he has been imho.

Abbott was Shortens only policy position so now he's gone Shorten will actually have to be proactive in the policy area. Interesting to see the leaders poll out today that's seen MT charge well ahead in the ratings, indicates how desperate the electorate is for a real leader to appear, just needs labor to find one and then both sides will be looked at with some semblance of credibility and respect.

I'm sorry to see Tony go because even with his foibles, he had an ingredient that the previous party didn't have - a set of balls and the guts to act. Unfortunately, we were heading towards having that bunch of turkeys back in a position whereby they could have completed their previous destructive mission. The last thing Australia needs is shortman carrying on the job that krudd and jules were doing. I don't particularly like Turnbull - I think he's an arrogant rich prick that has little knowledge of what a lot of every day Aussies go through. Still, the alternative is worse.

Yep now the Libs have got rid of their dead weight Labor will be in strife. Bet your bottom dollar that tosser Shorten will be given the flick now before the next election as I can't see him giving Malcolm T a run. Who is next in line to lead the ALP ??? If I were them I'd give Shorten Six months to have a crack and if he looks like he can't hack it get someone in who can. Shorten will be spewing Abbott got the knife - he thought he was in - now game on again ???

What pollie does? At least MT is not a career politician or former Union lacky, was a journo, lawyer and merchant banker, self made man who's there to make a difference not to line his pockets or wait for a fat pension. Would love to see a pollie with enough balls to change the parliamentary pension rort and have it the same as the ordinary punters. Hard to change it for any incumbents but maybe any newly elected pollies go onto a standard industry type fund, now that would be a vote winner.

Where is the indignation, feigned or otherwise, about dumping a sitting PM. Could it be that it is okay if it is the Liberal Party that does the dumping?

Superficially it is going to be harder for the ALP to beat a MT led coalition government and also noting that since the Second World War there has never been a one term Federal Government. HOWEVER, the problem that Turnbull will face as he heads toward the Federal election that his views, expressed often, is contrary on many of the issues that he agreed to prior to the leadership spill. Things like Climate Change and the best method to tackle it is through an ETS. The changes Abbott made to the NBN is doubly difficult for MT as he has the technical expertise, and people know that, to understand that the changes will result in far slower speeds and a vastly inferior product. There are many more examples where his views are on the product record and are vastly at odds with what he has agreed to prior to the vote.

Bit more simple than that s42. Its who people LIKE. They liked Rudd, despite those who worked with him hated him, hence he always polled better than Julia. The public hated Gillard, nuff said. Voters hated Tont so he went. Voters like Malcolm and hate Bill Shorten, so Malcolm wins the election. its a popularity contest nowadays as the general public cant work out the policies of either party, cos they are generally blockheads.

Old tony did one thing really well. Now he's gone to the back-bench, everybody's attention has well and truly forgotten about the review that's supposedly happening.
Rest assured, old Malcolm won't go any near it! He and all the other numpties over in Blundersville will continue to blatantly waste tax payers money.
