Nobody but nobody would get close to Brian Sarre, he used to hit the wingman on the chest on a regular basis, and landed it in the centre of the ground on nearly every kick

Yes Po-co Brian Sarre was a great kick and may well claim the title but their were others as well.

e.g. The goal kicked by John Todd from behind the centre, kicking to the city end of Lathlain in a scratch match circa 1962 or 1963.

John Grieve from Claremont was a full back who could reach the centre with his kicks.

Graham Ramshaw and of course John Quartermaine from Perth were other full backs capable of doing the same thing.

All you needed was the ruckman in the centre of the ground to tap it over the back to a rover and GOOOOOAAAAALLLL.

Ray Sorrell was another raking left footer of note.

And of course after having seen about 200 odd of Barry Cables 225 games for Perth who would forget his long accurate passes to team mates up the ground.

Yes PoCo there were some great drop kicks around and Brian Sarre was one of the best. Best form of defence in my humble opinion. Got the ball as far away from the back line as you could in one foul swoop.

I am sure someone else can come up with some names.

Some mention of john todd and others kicking the odd long one,but as we were asked for the best long dropkick, I would think that ment regually dropkicking long thats why I wouldnt mention people like barry cable very good 60/70 yard kicker but not anywhere near the distance or regularity of Sarre, I think ramshaw would be the closest that I saw, but not the regular 80/90 yard kicks of Sarre.

Sydney Jackson at Lotons against swans 2 steps centre circle head high through the goals at the bulwer st end.

Sarre was the best on a consistent basis, was just a shame he did not get the team rewards he deserved.

Pretty hard to pick but I spent many saturday arvo's at Subi oval watching Sarre kickout from goals and regularly reaching the old centre circle. Seeing that subi oval is, I think 165m long, that means he was dobbing them 80+m a dozen times a game.
