No wonder the AFL treat the WAFC like hillbillies.

Yeh, got me fkd. We (govt included) complain that no big entertainers want to come here, big sporting events are scared to come here and what do our govt/organisers etc do to make it more attractive??? SFA. I think we have this feeling that the mining boom will fix all ills. Guess what...we are gunna get our arses burned big times and soon. Go to a place like Tassie and see what they are doing to stay in the game.

What are you talking about mate, the Perth arena is attracting more big act entertainers than ever, it's just cricket is dieing in the arse all around the world here included, the WACA should be demolished and sold off and they can play Sheffield shield or whatever
cricket at Leederville oval for the 5 people that still go...lol

Cricket is dieing all around the world??? :S
You obviously arent watching the cricket on in India as we speak or went to any Ashes Tests last summer, the Perth Scorchers games etc etc

ever seen the crowds in the West Indies?

The crowds at the Carribean Premier League are packed out i know I watch it and I watch all forms of cricket from all around the world so I know full well it is thriving!
Even tho the crowds weren't massive at the 2 Perth ODI's the TV ratings smashed it!
What about the crowds in India, England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka not too mention how many view it on TV, Internet, Radio etc ..cricket is hardly dying as you put it!

I'm not sure what your looking at but everytime I see coverage of games including the world cup which was played in the west indies the grounds were completly empty,,bar a few kids employed to throw the ball back from the outter and that was the One Day World Cup.

As for India, its pretty much the same there, they dont pack the stadiums out either test matches are empty and even for the 20/20, depsite have a billion people there.

pakistan cant even play at home and play at empty grounds in the middle east.

complete joke.

I was in Sri Lanka once and called into the ground in Galle, it was Sri Lanka v South Africa - there were about 3000 people tops.

Apart from that international cricket would be the most corrupt sport going around as a result of indian bookies.

2018 the stadium will be ready, Subiaco Oval will gather moths, the "muppets" need to look at any $$$$$ they can get in selling the two AFL licences back to the AFL, approach the state govt and Subiaco council to rezone Subiaco oval to residential/commercial and get paid out of the existing lease. Use the combined $$$$ and join ground sharing at the WACA, use money to build stands (shaded dare I suggest), east & west areas will resume their original shape to allow football. Boutique oval to hold 30,000. WAFL finals played there & match of the week which could be televised from there so cameras don't have to be moved and no club/clubs get a financial advantage(oops, forget no TV deal).
Leave the AFL to deal with the govt over running the new Burswood stadium. WACA solves a few of it's problems, maintains the WACA wicket where it is, update the WACA training facilities.
Do it soon before the AFL pinch a line from Kerry Packer....the WAFC "muppets" come along once in a life time.....and we've had ours!

JB are we going to have 14 a side WAFL games aat the WACA; do you know the dimensions of the WACA these days?

If the WAFC admin are hopless then the WACA admin must be one of teh worst in the world.

After spending a mint in the 80's to lift capacity , install ligts - seating and making it a year round venue ( albeit average ) ,a decade later they then go on this nut job half baked "redevelpmement" project that reduced capcity, demolished the one historic stand left there only to leave stands made from scaffolding and still a hald finished Prindiville Stand, they lost footy reduced the size of the oval. how stupid was that? its now basically a white elephant that sits there empty for 90% of the year, useless for winter codes, and attended by a dwindling criket public, and ever decling membership base.

Once all the numpties at the WACA had to do was sit back and watch the World Series Cup and the likes of Windies roll into town and reap in the bucks, then hire the ground out to VFL, WAFL as well as Perth Glory and Rugby because they had nowhere else to go, well guess what everyones walked away to there own digs and now the WACA playing tiddly winks. Perth Glory/ Force crowds probably would even fit in the WACA now..lol

Totally bizare we are now the ONLY major city that does not have a year round sued criekt ground, MCG, SCG Adelaide Oval Gabba are now 100% fully untilsed venues , not us, we are stuck with a dud white elephant sports ground once again..well done WACA.

Swan42 if you read my post I said east & west areas resume their original shape, footy was played there until they extended the grass banks on the east & west. But hey, play 14 aside if you want, the rest can play 18.

Bazza: Pakistan can't play at home because of terrorism not due to the lack of popularity of cricket. More broadly, the sport is being increasingly dominated by TV -- people watch because cricket is popular. I would prefer to be able to watch it from the WACA on TV, rather that that stupid two hour rule they had in the past. I agree with you on the problems surrounding the re-development of the ground.
To be fair, Football did not want to play there for various reasons, especially financial; remember the PFC and EP left in the early 1990s after returning amidst much fanfare in the late 1980s. I think the WACA has a waitlist for membership, make of that what you will.

Like the " how the MCG is run". Next week's ODI at MCG has " buy 4 tickets, pay for three" Thats 25% off and it's not Christmas yet. They must be thinking ODI is dead also

Re TV,,Check my thread reference - IPL ratings are falling., part of the games decline.

Re Pakistan, yes I know, its safety reasons ( is there another sport in the world where that occurs???), still a joke esp. when the place they place has zero crowds..

Yep I remember when PFC played there, perhaps it was more the WACA not doing enough to keep co tenants, now look at them - not a single other org wants to know about the joint.

Re waitlists I think your getting the WACA confused with the MCG.
