With the alleged massive debts faced by some clubs for taxation bills , power bills , defaulting on payments etc can they continue to operate (trade) if they are insolvent? I don't have any knowledge about " the laws" governing clubs when faced by these alleged situations. Is there someone who can provide an expert point of view as I understand that clubs cannot continue to operate if they are insolvent. If this is true are the directors of these clubs culpable and held accountable "by law"? What about the accountability of the auditors? If these allegations are true have the WAFC failed in their oversight of the operation of these clubs? What does this mean for the WAFL competition? Any comment?

Not just WAFL Clubs... What about AFL clubs Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne...Plus the other clubs who have made losses or carrying substantial debts The list goes on...

I would think the WAFL clubs as a whole are probably in better financial shape than some of the fore mentioned AFL clubs.

6/7 out of the 9 WAFL clubs operated at a financial loss last year.

AFL clubs running at a loss, WAFL clubs running at a loss, even SAMatt said his club in SA, Central District ran at a loss in 2012.

There's a problem and it goes far deeper than the popularity or not, of the various comps.

There was talk of Footscray FC moving West as in WA back in the 1980's due to their financial state.

Agree it is very tough now.

I was absolutely shocked when I received SFFC Annual Report this year and read that they had posted a $160,000.00 LOSS!

I knew it was a bad year on the field, attendances and bar takings were hugely down, but was still shocked.

That is a third year of losses for us, and a few years we had $600,000.00 in the bank, now its 300,000.00 if those losses continue we will be broke in 5 years.

I really cant see it being sustainable and now with the two AFL ers changing the WAFL, it will be a financial disaster unless they get more cash.

Some of our losses 2 years ago were due to upgrading lights and clubrooms etc I believe. Had the money so we used it to improve the facilities but I can't explain last years loss that's for sure.
