MATCH Review Panel chairman Mark Fraser has defended the decision to suspend Fremantle star Nat Fyfe earlier this season, disputing the assertion that MRP interpretations have since changed.

"Absolutely – it is a definite rough conduct charge the way we grade things this year," Fraser told The Verdict on AFL.com.au.

"With that same incident occurring during this weekend, exactly the same penalty would occur.

"People are going to have differing opinions to us and that's what we're there to do, to make those decisions," he said.

"We endeavour to be consistent through the whole process and I think we do a reasonable job."

I wasn't aware that Mark Fraser did stand up comedy as well.........

I think the only thing that is consistent about the match review panel is that they are "consistently inconsistent". As you said Franklin was the classic example but there have been lots of others too.

Mike if Franklin played for Fremantle he would have got 2 weeks. Sydney is the AFL's baby, they are untouchable because that is the market they want to grow the game in the most. It's so obvious it is embarrassing. .

Interesting how Gerard Whateley fully supports the Fyfe suspension. Equally interesting is his recent campaign vis a vis players ducking their heads to get a free kick; yet doesn't seem to want to highlight how Geelong got their first of 31 free kicks (compared to Fremantle's 14) on Saturday evening.

I watched AFL 360 a bit last season, however Both Robbo and Gerard are both starting to irritate me with their Victorian eccentric behavior and commentary. They both dribble on.

When they talk Rugby League to show diversity, its always the Melbourne Storm and everyone should be in ore of Smith and Bellamy.

It is shows like AFL 360 that reiterate that its not really a national competition, and the show is made for Victorians.

Anyone else really care what Robbo or Gerard think?

I think if Whateley was to wear a Geelong jumper when presenting AFL360 it wouldn't make any difference. As for their fawning of Melbourne Storm club and players it is an interesting position given the Melbourne Storm's history.

Fully agree re the disgusting explanation re the fyffe ban, why did no one query Fraser on the franklin bump at the same time?.

Re Vic centric footy shows, luckily the media here is so fair to every no WA team, to show us how its done (insert sarcasm). Been said before BUT the "masses" are in Vic, hence in every business ya appeal to the masses.

I certainly have no intention of defending the indefensible in The West. However, Whateley purports to be 'fair and balanced' and succeeds as well as Fox News succeeds in its 'fair and balanced' reporting.

Fyfes accidental head clash cops with Rischitelli which didnt lead to Rischitelli missing a match got 2 weeks.
Merretts accidental elbow to Pedersons nose which left Pederson with a broken nose and out of the game for a few weeks gets nothing.

Makes sense!
