Hardly surprising with the game being played in SA though WAG....might of been different if the game was at Basso or MRP....but who knows.....

As Southerner said, the only positive to come out of that game will be SANFL players will be in the mid season draft gun instead of the WAFL players....disappointing for the likes of Ninyette, Strom, Fisher, Schoenfeld, Parker etc if they were seeking an AFL lifeline, but most of them were pretty ordinary and have to be content with plying their trade in the WAFL....but whose to say they are even fussed....one would think State footy is the in between level of AFL and State League footy....could of simply been a bad day in the office for them, but mediocre to say the least....

Sad to hear people's comments re State footy....remember fondly some classic State games through the 70's & 80's...but the footy landscape has changed and sadly what will be will be.

It comes back to the reason for the state game.  Why was the game played so early in the season?  What were the selection criteria?  I can recall one state game where the selection as not based on who were the best players in the WAFL representing the state.  The game was a farce and perhaps what best illustrates that at one stage during the match the WA player after a behind had been scored thought that his best option was to handball!

Victoria ordered it for a prelude to the draft that wasn't held last year mate - fortunately for us the outbreak last month prevented one particular club Gold Coast (and believe that there would have been more heading over for sure)  from attending at least two local fixtures in advance scouting manouvres
This was a farce but Claremont could lose Bolton Subiaco could lose Delahunty and South Fremantle could lose Strom and Swan Districts could lose Gault yet I believe , it will be touch & go
The most disgusting part of this scam is that these blokes have a six month take it or leave it "contract" shoved in fron of them once they nominate themselves
I hear Subiaco's Brandon Matera put his name forward as well

Delivery into the fwd line was average.. Defenders running off there opponents and no-one covering there man.Played really wide trying to use the width of the ground..
SA played a straight gameWith all Key position players on top of there WA opponents.

Just watched a replay.
Who were the selectors was it Broadbridge before he pulled the pin (sook)?
!5 or 16 players from 3 teams is questionable in my opinion.
18 debutants?
You have to be kidding.
Very little preparation, WA treated it disgracefully,
At least SA have some pride in their jumper.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!

The result showed that for state games preparation is key. We had one team who trained together for several weeks v another who maybe had 2 training runs. being over in SA, meant we had to travel and several players may not have felt comfortable travelling and the possibility of 2 weeks iso if an ES breakout occurred, as light as that chance was I understand the players being cautious. If the game was in Perth many more WA players would have been available. Also there were a number of injuries to players who would definitely have been considered. past state players just from my team in Lockyer, Heal & Sokol would have played but all are currently or just recently injured and that would have been the case for many in the WAFL. Schoithe from Souths would have been one of the first picked. But swings and round abouts, SA have won the last two games and we one the previous 2 or 3. lets see what happens when we host them next year and make a judgement then.
At least when we host a state game it's not as an AFL curtain raiser with nobody there for most of the game, if it was at Freo, Basso, Leederville or like, we would expect a crowd of 3 - 4 k on a fine day.

SS we did play SA in a State game before a Dorks or Wiggles game at Perth Stadium back in 2019 in which we kicked poorly at goal to lose by a couple of goals.

The only part of the match I saw was the 10 or so seconds shown on the ABC News Saturday evening.  The crowd looked pretty sparse,

It is a very bold prediction that the next state game in 2022 would not be on the same day and venue as an AFL game.  I didn't use curtain raiser advisedly because the game would finish well before the start of the AFL game.

Just saw the list of nominees for the draft Southerner and couldn't see Gault's name there. The Swans players who have nominated are Sam Fisher, Jesse Turner, William Reidy, Kobe Farmer and Jamison Ugle. Brandon Matera has nominated. Sorry didnt make a note of the South Freo boys, but I think there were a few of them.

Only Matera and Chad Harris from Subi, Surprising some of the young blokes didn't have a crack like Nick Martin, Will Hickmott or Kyle Stainsby.
