Well done to Swans on another win over West Coast. I was under the impression that WCE would embrace and promote there reserves side.

It appeared to me that there must have been some sort of "line in the sand" type meeting between players coaches and the club after that embarrassing effort at Fremantle last week. All the intensity, tackling and desperation that they were demonstrating in some early season games were back.

After a shaky start ( it was 2-2 to zip after 10 minutes) Swans steadied and absolutely dominated the first half from that point. I would say that the 2nd quarter was pretty close to the best 30 minutes of footy I have seen from them all season. It was wonderful to see Swans getting the ball out of the centre and delivering it quickly to give the forwards a chance. Doc battled hard against the two Eagles giants. The midfield was really even yesterday with others like Cipro, Payne, Hackett and Garcia taking some of the load off the usual suspects in Riggio Turner and Hampson. West Coast seemed rattled in the 2nd term which showed when they lost their discipline and conceded a "double goal" and also lost Duggan and Brander during this period.

With a 26 point lead at half time everybody held their breath to see if Swans could play 4 quarters this time. The Eagles came back strongly in the 2nd half but the pleasing thing from a Swans point of view was that unlike other games they were able to regroup and snatch the initiative back. The first time was in the 3rd quarter when WCE kicked the first 3 goals and Swans were stuck on their half time score for 15 minutes. Swans steadied and got a goal against the run of play to extend the margin back to more than 2 goals.

Then more seriously after Notte had kicked the first goal in the last quarter, WCE got on a run of 4 goals, grabbed the lead in the time on period and Swans fans started to get a depressing sense of deja-vu. Many Swans guys were cramping and all of a sudden looked fatigued. The fact that they once again were able to force the ball up the field, regain the lead and then hang on to it in a nervous last few minutes was a great credit to the players and there was a lot of jubilation after the siren.

It was a win that everyone at the club desperately needed from the president, board, coaches, players, members and supporters just to give us all belief that there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and I'm sure it was celebrated in the club rooms last night

Secondly a big thank you to the 14 WCE supporters who game to Basso to support the WAFL. Those 14 represented the 55000 WCE members who couldn’t give a stuff about anything else unless it’s in the AFL. Your team wasn’t even playing at that time.

No, let them stay. It was good yesterday in the McDonald Stand having a crack at supporters of a Victorian club who consider their club precious. Well done Bright on another good game.

What a difference it makes getting some drive out of the middle.

having Turner and Cipro back together in the middle gives us 2 good mids to go with Riggio, just need some more experience.
coach threw the team around - Hampson at half back was a good move, still managed to run down and kick 2 goals..Glass-McCasker on the wing, Noble on the ball, Ireland looks a good tall defender, Notte gave the forward line a spark.
young Garcia is a good little prospect, forward pressure was great, just needs more of the footy.
Beck and Bright doing well, just need to work on their disposal.
spirit and effort was much improved, one of Warrick's better games

Didn't recognise Cipro at first with his bleached hair but he provided pace and grunt in the midfield.
Would love them to bring the same effort to the game against Subiaco this week. Probably our most realistic hope of another win is the last home game v Peel, particularly if they are out of the race for a finals spot by that stage.

Great for the young players confidence to get the win and reward for the old war horses.
Let’s not let the 3rd win over the season wallpaper over the cracks. The decision makers need to not be dumb enough to do the same (although my confidence in them is low. Only 2 sides we’ve beaten this season.

With the books balanced, no other clubs likely to be looking for a coach, and swans basically starting at square one, it is perfect timing to get on the front foot and find the best people available to be head of football and senior coach.
