They had no choice to go with what they had which was a core of senior players and a group of talented youngsters ( including Conor Blakely). Every football pundit in town predicted Swans would finish bottom that year. What actually happened was that the enthusiasm of the young players rubbed off on the older guys and the team gelled magnificantly. The best win was when we knocked off Subiaco in a twilight game at Leederville. We ended up making the finals against all expectations. 2014 was definitely Hardings finest moment as a coach.
Of course replicating this would be a tough ask for a first year coach, but from what I've heard from others, Pickering certainly doesn't seem to lack confidence in his own ability.

Hearing the same thing re Pickers. Confidence and enthusiasm is great.

DW I would strongly recommend that you attend Swans' games in 2018 as it most likely 2018 will be one of the last seasons that we will have the opportunity to follow the mighty black and whites.

Swan 42, One has to wonder if the club is interested in supporters coming to games in 2018 with their lack of ability to get any names to paper legitimately. They have money in the cap for a couple but for some reason appear unable to be able to capture the imagination of potential recruits. Doesn't paint a great picture of the work we are doing behind the scenes. Hope the powers that be have the insight to make the necessary changes for our club to prosper again although like you say there may not be a competition to play in soon the way things are headed. I'm still not sold if I will renew my membership nor that of my partner in 2018. Seems to me we are spending a lot more money off field than on field and I don't like the thought of my hard earned going in a direction where there is no value for my money. I'll reserve my decision until closer to the season proper but hope if anyone involved at the club reads this that at least 2 of it's members are putting the club on notice as to the unbridled support we usually give. We expect better and especially in the areas necessary to induce improvement.

DW my response to your comments is as follows:

attend the AGM and ask the president about our recruiting;

see how we go this season and make a decision on that basis for 2019;

as I also pointed out to BH that if members are not happy with the direction of the Board then ensure that there are changes made to the board at the next election of Board members. Personally unless there is renewal at board level periodically then a club is likely to stagnate.

I think our first game is against Perth; I would certainly recommend attending that game.

Heard the same thing a few days back Leedy. Will be interesting to see if we can get a few more games out of him than Crowley in 2017.

Do you know where to Astro? He'd be a good pick up for the likes of Perth.
