Not sure what to make of this game next Monday.Swans performances have gone from bad to worse over the last 3 or 4 weeks and I question whether they have the skills and confidence to match it with a Perth team which has only won 1 more game but has been far more competitive in their losses than we have.

The home ground advantage will count for a few goals but Swans have been so embarrassingly bad, particularly in recent away games against East Perth and Claremont that it is hard to see this being turned around. Perth have a far superior midfield and you would have to assume that they will get the lions share of the ball in the clearances. The only plus that might work in Swans favour is that Perth don't seem to have a fully functional forward line so if we can take advantage of limited opportunities we may be able to keep the scores tight, stay in the game for longer and push for a victory in the last quarter.

Injuries aside I can't see too many changes. None of the reserves boys are really banging the door down to be selected. Perhaps Grescos and Holman could be considered on last weeks form.

I would hope given reasonable weather that we might get a decent crowd up there even though it is a wooden spoon battle. Sad to say but I think that 2000 would be regarded with euphoria by Swans management such has been the drastic drop off this year.

I think I say this almost every week but all I want is for the boys to look like they are enjoying themselves, try their heart out, take some risks in order to score more goals and not to handpass to stationary targets!! In the end if Perth are still too good after all that I can go home thinking that they have given it a red hot go. Haven't done that too much this year

Mate if the boys bring the same effort they gave against us you'll have a very good chance of securing your second win of the season

Yeah that's one bright spot in a dark month, we were able to take it up to the top team in the first half at least anyway. Hopefully we can bring that sort of effort on Monday and not the insipid one from the Showgrounds.

Mike usually being able to kick 100 points a game more often than not usually would guarantee a side victory ...we havent brought up the ton once all year (highest score is 83) and I cant see us doing it this week either!

Yes, its been hard to see where the goals are going to come from. Considering all the factors I think our defence has generally stood up reasonably well this year given the amount of time the ball spends in Swans back 50. Another positive I have gleaned out of looking back at some stats is that Perth have only won 1 game in the last 12 years at Bassendean and that was the famous 'French water boy' match. In the same time Swans have won 14 and there was one draw, so recent history is on our side if nothing else!

At least 6 of your goals will come from our usual turnovers.
I reckon if you played Notte out of the goal score he could bag you another 5 plus 4 or so from other avenues thats 15 or 16 we have to kick to win and we are just not capable of kicking that many in a game.

30+ Perth kicked 14 goals against us only a month ago, we haven't kicked that amount of goals in a game all year!!
Mike I thought the water boy 'Gino' was an Italian fella? What a mamma mia ental fark up that was
With the likes of Notte, Cary, Riddoch, Rogers, Jukes, Banfield, Ansey, Simpson et al we can throw forward you would think we would have been able to muster up more than the measly, pitiful 78 goals we have only managed to kick this year so far in 10 games! :pinch:

Some interesting stats derived from WAFL online about Swans v Perth clashes on a Monday.
We have met 11 times on a Monday with the first in 1936 at Basso.5 Mondays at Basso and 6 Mondays at Latho.
the other years-
1963 Perth won in April at Lath (Easter)
1965 SD won in June at Basso (Found day)
1966 Perth won in June at Lath (Found day)
1967 SD won in June at Lath (Found day)
1979 SD won in April at Lath (Easter)
1981 SD won in April at Lath (Easter)
1984 SD won in April at Basso (Easter)
1991 SD won in June at Basso (Found day)
2009 Perth won in April at Lath (Easter)
2011 SD won in April at Basso (ANZAC Clash)

5 meetings first Mon in June = 3 x at Basso twice at Latho
6 meetings in April on a Mon = 4 x at Latho twice at Basso
Of the June clashes SD have won 4 and Perth once
Of the April clashes SD have won 4 and Perth twice.
Overall SD 8 wins, Perth 3 wins

What this all means I do not know except regardless of ladder positions it should be a tight contest and why SD and Perth aren't featured on every Mon Pub hol in June astounds me, I wonder why they stopped it in the past??
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Good question mate considering the last public holiday crowd figure between the 2 sides???
Despite both clubs positions on the ladder let's hope a good crowd shows up for the time honoured Eastern Derby at the Home Of Football in WA!
